Ezekiel EmanuelRahms older brother and the man who, as far back as 2009, current Nebraska Senate candidate Ben Sasse warned was quarterbacking the details of Obamacarehas authored a New York Times op-ed in which he criticizes the proposed alternative released last week by Senators Coburn, Burr, and Hatch. Emanuel, a rather feisty fellow (see his Fox News exchange with Jim Caprettaduring which he admitted that, under Obamacare, the individual market is going away), has written some, well, provocative things about what he calls the allocation of scarce medical interventions. For example, hed prioritize the lives of the young over the old, but would nevertheless prioritize the lives of adolescents over infants. Thats because adolescents have received substantial education and parental care, investments that will be wasted without a complete life. Infants by contrast, have not yet received these investments. Yes, thats who designed Obamacare, with all of its central planning and government control over Americans health-care decisions and their lives. (Feel better now?)
Emanuels musings about the relative value of distinct human lives might make one think of Obamacares unelected and largely unaccountable Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB), one of the myriad notorious features of Obamacare that Americans would be freed from under the Coburn-Burr-Hatch alternative. Others include (to list just a few) Obamacares job-killing employer mandate (which President Obama, at his whim, has lawlessly refused to execute as written); its war on doctors (Obamacare bans, for example, the building or expanding of doctor-owned hospitals); its taxpayer-funded bailout of big insurance companies; and, of course, its historically unprecedented individual mandate, which says thatfor the first time in United States historyprivate American citizens must buy a product or service of the federal governments choosing....

Screw him and his death wishes.
Dr. Mengle reincarnated!
I don’t like them either. They are trying to pull Obastard’s biscuits out of the fire, thus spreading the taint of the failed programs onto themselves, and us.
E-Z-Kill
Ezekiel Emanuel, Boo Radley’s brother.
Is it possible to find a statement from an influential U. S. government spokesman which so clearly ignores, refutes, and objects to the very premise of the American philosophical foundation, that "All men are endowed by their Creator . . . ." with life, liberty and the right to pursue happiness as individuals?
To Emanuel and the "progressive" regressives he represents in the current Administration, the individual life is valued only with regard to the value imperfect human beings like himself have placed upon it--based on their likewise imperfect formula for determining that value.
Shameful!!!
Creepy Ezekiel is Dr. Kervorkian mini me. He is VERY DANGEROUS.....Democrats are the culture of DEATH.....EXCEPT for COP KILLERS!!
I don't like it either. It's Obamacare lite. It has all the potential to be as expensive as Obamacare with it's subsidies and tax credits. It increases in my taxes. It'll drive companies towards dropping their healthcare and dumping people on the government plan, just like Obamacare does. It's not a solution.
Why would one even consider asking HIS opinion? Good grief! No Marxist is going to like a free-market plan. That is a no-brainer! We don’t need his opinion, nor do we need Obama’s. This needs to pass, and if it doesn’t, then it needs to be reintroduced in 2015, after the new Congress is in session.
Here is a substantial real world reason why having rights “endowed by the Creator” is so essential to civil society. It is the very thing that stands in the way of the Progressive design to totally control society; to be run by experts like Emanuel.
Yep, that would be that dude.
How many lives will be lost because of this one man?
The Coburn-Burr-Hatch plan is no solution to the Obamacare mess.
The solution lies in getting the government out of healthcare, not employing government to fix a problem government created.
This GOPe “alternative” doesnt repeal or reform anything: pre-existing conditions remain ,community ratings remain, tax credits still given to corporations for health insurance (instead of to the individials-IE-no portability)
It’s a joke.
The author spends a lot of time on policy pricing, but to me the most hateful aspect is that I am forced to buy a product which is useless to me. In effect, the policies available have such outrageously high deductibles that it is really just catastrophic insurance. I will be FORCED to pay for an expensive but useless POS that will provide zero benefits to me except in a major catastrophe.
Well stated. See my post above.
In the Post just above yours, Shery makes this comment: "Why would anyone even consider asking HIS opinion?"
The answer so-called "progressives" would give is that Emanuel is known as the "architect" of the plan.
On the other hand, for true conservatives, HIS opinion underlies the very reason those who love the ideas of America's foundations in liberty, who treasure the life of the most innocent and vulnerable in the society, and who see the Hand of the Creator, NOT some pre-supposed "value" placed on human life by folks like Emanuel and the current Administration must understand what he so clearly enunciated in the statement included in this article as being the very antithesis of respect for our Constitution's protections, as framed on the foundation outlined in the Declaration of Independence from tyranny.
Even better said!!
It is no coincidence that early Progressives like Woodrow Wilson and Goodnow openly railed against the Founder's adherence to the "laws of nature and nature's God." Nor is it a coincidence that the 5th article of the Humanist Manifesto (signed by John Dewey, btw, the father of the modern education system) states: "Humanism asserts that the nature of the universe depicted by modern science makes unacceptable any supernatural or cosmic guarantees of human values."
Our freedoms have been under assault for quite some time.
