Horses' future uncertain if NYC carriage rides end [de Blasio may turn them into burgers]

NEW YORK (AP) — Time may be running out for the iconic horse carriages that carry tourists around Central Park. Mayor Bill de Blasio already has declared his intention to shut down the industry, saying it is inhumane to keep horses in modern-day Manhattan.

While that debate could be over, at least one nagging question remains: What will become of the horses?

In Pennsylvania's Amish country, which is the source of many of the horses that wind up working in Central Park, this oversupply plays out weekly at the New Holland Livestock Auction. Every Monday, buyers for foreign meat factories snap up horses — many still young and healthy — that once pulled plows, buggies and carts, or even served as family pets. All have been discarded because of lackluster performance or rising costs of care.

Maybe they can carve ‘em up and feed them to the lions.

Mayor Bill de Blasio already has declared his intention to shut down the industry,

How's he going to do that? By decree? Or is he going to send hither swarms of officers to harass the owners?

This agenda-driven anal orifice is no different than the Copenhagen Zoo imbeciles. He, typical Socialist, only views the ISSUES and the AGENDA, not the ramifications of ivory tower policies.

He just came out today, for example, with a pithy platitude that NYC welcomes everyone, including illegal immigrants. I'm sure fellow NYC residents will also welcome them despoiling their neighborhoods so that they resemble the pestholes from whence they sprang, committing the crimes Americans won't commit, taking jobs from Americans, and soaking up resources like seats in our schools they have no right to and medical care they have no right to.

One of diBlasio’s buddies wants the land on which the horses’ stable stands. It’s immensely valuable property.

The article is correct. There isn’t much of a market for draft or draft-cross horses, unless said draft crosses are good for foxhunting. Many of them end up at New Holland and sold to kill buyers. People cannot afford to keep carriage horses as pets, especially if their livelihood has been taken away by diblasio’s corruption.

It's a land-grab by Commie De Blasio for his crony-fascist benefactors.

Could This Be the Real Reason the New NYC Mayor Vowed to Ban Horse Carriages in NYC?

What about police horses? Are they exempt? Isn't it just as inhumane to keep them in Manhattan, too?

Maybe they can carve ‘em up and feed them to the lions.

Around here they do exactly that. Older horses are donated to cat sanctuaries where they are killed, dismembered and fed to the big cats. The same people who were screaming to shut down all the horse kill facilities are now the ones asking our government to open them back up.

I was raised on a cattle ranch and older horses are not kept until they die. They eat too much to do that. Our horses are well taken care of but they, like our stock dogs, are very much tools of our trade.

We need humane horse kill facilities here. When they shut them down they didn't stop killing horses they just shipped them over the Mexican or Canadian border and slaughtered them anyway.

Reality here in the non city world is very different than what you learn from Disney.

Simple solution. NY Zoos have lions, right?

My post was a (not so clever) reference to the Scandinavian Zoo thread where it was reported that a Giraffe was slaughtered in front of a (admittedly urban) crowd and then the meat fed to other zoo residents. It wasn’t so much what they did as how they went about it.
