(Mark) Steyn countersues Mann for 10 millon dollars
Watts Up With That? ^ | Feburay 21, 2014 | By Anthonny Watts

Posted on 02/22/2014 10:12:10 AM PST by Brad from Tennessee

Mark Steyn has decided to countersue Michael Mann for $10 million.

The legal document reads like a drama. See below.

FIRST COUNTERCLAIM

130. Plaintiff [Mann] has engaged in a pattern of abusive litigation designed to chill freedom of speech and to stifle legitimate criticism of Plaintiff’s work. He is currently suing Dr Tim Ball in British Columbia over a hoary bit of word play (“should be in the state pen, not Penn State”) applied to innumerable Pennsylvanians over the years. Having initiated the suit, Dr Mann then stalled the discovery process, so that the BC suit is now entering its third year – Mann’s object being to use the process as a punishment, rather than any eventual trial and conviction. See Mann vs Ball et al, British Columbia VLC-S-S-111913 (2011) (exhibit attached).

131.At the other end of the spectrum, Plaintiff and his Counsel have issued demands that have no basis in law, as they well know – including the preposterous assertion, in response to a parody video by “Minnesotans for Global Warming”, that “Professor Mann’s likeness” is protected from parody and satire…There is a smell to the hockey stick that, in Lady Macbeth’s words, “all the perfumes of Arabia will not sweeten” – nor all the investigations. And so Dr Mann has determined to sue it into respectability.

132. At the same time, Plaintiff continues to evade the one action that might definitively establish its respectability – by objecting, in the courts of Virginia, British Columbia and elsewhere, to the release of his research in this field. See Cuccinelli vs Rectors and Visitors of the University of Virginia. . .

This is about the legal battle that began with a libel suit filed by University of Virginia climate scientist/political activist Michael (Hockey Stick) Mann against columnist Mark Steyn and other critics.

Steyn is going to be his nemesis now, not just an annoying thorn in his side which was all Steyn could be while it was a battle of hurled words.

Couldn’t happen to a nicer bull hockey player.

This court episode means that Mann has to produce his data file...and that’s been the one thing that he’s avoided doing. I don’t see him cooperating, and this whole case dissolves within a month or two. His lawyer has to be asking about fees and wondering now if he’ll get anything out of this deal.

Longing for the good ol’ days when you settled something like this with a sock in the kisser. Too much legal eagle BS!

Sure hope Steyn’s attorney can nail Mann to the wall and stop this costly fraud which is robbing all Americans and especially the coal miners of West Virginia, Ohio and Pennsylvania. However, with Obama preaching this “is accepted science” and liberal judges controlling the courts, I think we are all screwed despite evidence showing global warming/climate change to be a fraud. Liberals/Progressives have built fortunes on this theory and will now defend it with money, judicial and political clout. This is just another reason conservatives must win in 2014 if we are to have a chance of reversing course and saving America for future generations.

Yep. Steyn is exactly right in that some like Mann, use the legal process to harass and punish. Now that will at least work both ways.

From Mr. Mann’s demand to dominate climate science as well as his thin skinned attempt at punishing detractors, we are obviously dealing with a narcissist.

Narcissists glory in perceived power and are tyrannical to challenges. A true narcissist doesn’t consider what’s right and wrong, instead they consider what’s good and what’s bad for me personally!

We owe much of our nations problems to narcissists. Some of the biggest of recent memory were LBJ, Bill Clinton and Barak O’bama. Outside of this country, Putin, that stupid N.Korea guy, and the late Chavez.

The success of our American system is that we have been able to limit the damage each of these narcissists have been able to do.

Mark is his own lawyer in this case
http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2014/02/mark-steyn-strikes-back-against-the-empire.php

I hope he has the good sense to have a lawyer advising him and checking out what he produces such as this counter-suit. Steyn’s problem is this lawsuit is in the Washington Dc Federal Courts. Their talent pool is far too leftist as it is and Ogungu is going to try to stack them. This is why Harry Reid cot rid of the filibuster

Also it seems the judge assigned to this case is a vile dunderhead of the AA variety. IIRC

"Sure hope Steyn's attorney"

He doesn't have an attorney. After Steyn lost on the first go round in court, he wrote a column saying bad things about the judge, which prompted his lawyers to drop him as a client.

Limbaugh should pay him $50,000 for each time he hosts. All of in the form of a donation to Steyn’s legal defense fund.

Levin’s firm or Hewit’s firm or the Pacific Legal Foundation or
any number of law firms across the land would take up Steyn’s cause
in a heartbeat and Mark knows that. He’s up to something pretty
big.

Its funny that you should mention Rush because that suggestion came out on another thread and I said that the coal industry should be footing Steyn's legal fees.

Most don't recall that in 2012(when Steyn made the statement), others were making similar statements, like it was a co-ordinated strategy.

Heartland Institute said global warmists were like the unibomber and planned also saying like Manson, Castro.

When Heartland began the campaign, many financial donors immediately dropped them, forcing Heartland to turn to the coal industry for additional funding.

So, my premise was, if coal was willing to bail out Heartland, they should be willing to bail out Steyn.
