So, I'm a Millennial and a leftist. Zot away (Froggy Mod says "Adieu")

Posted on 02/24/2014 3:17:38 PM PST by Millennial Lefty

So, I lurk on Free Republic quite a bit. Usually it's to read some of the outrageous comments some post here and some of it is to see what your opinions are on certain articles that also get posted elsewhere.

So, a little bit about myself. I'm in my 20s and of Hispanic origin. I was born in New York but moved to Florida when I was three years old. I'm what you guys would consider a "socialist". I don't consider myself a socialist, I'm a supporter of the free market economy except I favor strong government regulations.

While on many issues am probably to the left of the Democratic Party there is one issue I agree with the Republicans but it isn't an issue that would ever sway me to vote for the Republican Party. That issue is gun rights. I love guns and I believe the 2nd amendment is a fundamental right to the people of the United States. I don't believe in a ban on "assault" weapons or on accessories like there is on certain sized magazines. I also support the right for one to properly defend themselves with or without deadly force with your legally owned firearm.

However, on economic and social issues I side with the DNC. I'm probably to the left of the DNC on most issues.

So anyways, ask away.

Probably a paid troll. The Dems are laying a trap. Their latest line is “we just want a conversation” on obamacare.
That's all we wanted BEFORE they passed it. Talk now is a meaningless attempt to brainwash and lie to folks... Like the way we always talk about budget cuts after passing more spending.

That's their usual MO. Arrogantly screw up everything, then look for a way to drag us into their tar pit so they can shift blame.

Okay I'll Bite.

So, a little bit about myself. I'm in my 20s and of Jewish origin. I was born in Kansas City . I'm what you would consider a "Tea Partier". I'm a supporter of the free market economy except I am in favor of next to NO Government Regulations.

So, I lurked on Free Republic quite a bit since I was 19. Usually it's to read some of the interesting perspectives on different subjects comments some post here and some of it is to see what your opinions are on certain articles that also get posted elsewhere.

While on many issues am on the Right of the Republican Party though I hold NO loyalty to the Uniparty.

However, on economic and social issues I side with the Tea Party. I'm probably to the Right of the RNC on most issues.

Now you got enough Cojones to respond to that mi amigo?

It's nice you're so proud of your idiocy!

Someday when you're all grown up you are going to wish you were as smart as you think you are now.

Start by looking at all the socialist paradise's in the world right now (and total up the millions of dead people thanks to them)

Gun rights are what initially swung me from left to right as well. Although I had been a dem for years, I was pretty apolitical. The more I read and learned, I realized what I had been all along was a Libertarian. However.... I vote pragmatically.

Your faith in the power of education is misplaced - trying to educate an enemy agent is a fool’s errand.

It was not mere education I was referencing; it was our own position's tenability.
To understand one's position's strength and weaknesses often it is needed to see how/where the enemy will attack from.

Little do you know it, but you’re seeking more knowledge about conservatism because deep down, you feel it’s really the right way to go.

If we cannot articulate a good apology [defense], then shouldn't we "be schooled"?

Conservatives can and have articulated a nearly endless set of arguments and reasons why liberty, free markets, and conservative principles are superior to the ideas behind socialism. Socialists have also provided a nearly endless set of examples of why their ideas are terrible, including the dead bodies of millions of people that have been slaughtered in the name of their ideas. Today we have examples of socialism in action in places like Cuba, Venezuela, and North Korea.

It is certainly worth teaching young people the truth, and countering the nonsense and propaganda that is poured into their heads by liberal elites in our nation's schools, but that is different than some nebulous obligation to "defend" conservative ideas.

I suggest a better starting point. Ask a socialist to justify the actions of Pol Pot, or Stalin, or Mao, or Castro, or Kim. Or better yet let the young socialist explain his support for them and their ideas to someone who has survived their death camps, or someone who tried to save their kids from drowning during an attempted escape from the tyranny of socialism, or someone who got ashore in a raft from Cuba even though their friends died along the way.

Once the young socialist renounces the ideas of socialism, then perhaps he is ready to read and learn about liberty.
