Oklahoma Fox station accidentally cuts evolution scene from 'Cosmos'
Los Angeles Times ^ | March 13, 2014 | Meredith Blake

On Sunday night, the premiere of the science documentary series "Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey" on the Oklahoma City Fox affiliate KOKH was briefly interrupted by a local news promo. These things happen all the time on TV. Big deal, right?

Well, it just so happens that host Neil deGrasse Tyson was referring to the theory of evolution just as the accidental preemption occurred. As first reported by the left-leaning website Raw Story, in the omitted portion, Tyson explained how "three and a half million years ago" humans "stood up and parted ways" from our biological "ancestors."

I made it up to the cartoon that bashed the church. The I knew what kind of propoganda they will be spewing for the series. I did a little reading on Bruno. They simply made up the story on Cosmos.
DeGrasse looks stoned.

Evolution is still a theory.

So is the explanation on how an airplane weighing hundreds of tons can go hurtling through the air thousands of feet off the ground.

The show was boring as hell. No need to get worked up. Just like every other liberal POS, no one will watch episode 2.

What proof is there of anything? What proof is there of God? For all these things the answer is none. You present the information you have and let the cards fall where they may.

Flight has been demonstrated and is not a theory.

Evolution has yet to be demonstrated no matter how many skulls they dig up.

Science still classifies it as a theory, the Theory of Flight. Perhaps you need to familiarize yourself with the definition of a theory in the scientific community?

Evolution has yet to be demonstrated no matter how many skulls they dig up.

There are a great many people who would disagree with you. But while we're on the subject, when was the last time creationism was demonstrated?

Every species, every form of life ever discovered is transitional.

Terms Used in Describing the Nature of Science

Fact: In science, an observation that has been repeatedly confirmed and for all practical purposes is accepted as "true." Truth in science, however, is never final, and what is accepted as a fact today may be modified or even discarded tomorrow.

Hypothesis: A tentative statement about the natural world leading to deductions that can be tested. If the deductions are verified, it becomes more probable that the hypothesis is correct. If the deductions are incorrect, the original hypothesis can be abandoned or modified. Hypotheses can be used to build more complex inferences and explanations.

Law: A descriptive generalization about how some aspect of the natural world behaves under stated circumstances. Theory: In science, a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world that can incorporate facts, laws, inferences, and tested hypotheses.

The contention that evolution should be taught as a "theory, not as a fact" confuses the common use of these words with the scientific use. In science, theories do not turn into facts through the accumulation of evidence. Rather, theories are the end points of science. They are understandings that develop from extensive observation, experimentation, and creative reflection. They incorporate a large body of scientific facts, laws, tested hypotheses, and logical inferences.

A scientific theory is a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world that is acquired through the scientific method, and repeatedly confirmed through observation and experimentation.

Please explain to me how an eye “evolved.”

A whole lot of people have spent a lot of time looking into that and forming theories on how it happened. How the eye evolved

I wouldn't know, It is not my area of expertise. I could ask you the same question since you stated that:

Evolution is a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world that was acquired through the scientific method, and repeatedly confirmed through observation and experimentation.

Now, had you said that evolution was a hypothesis, that would be an entirely different matter.
