WASHINGTON — The Food and Drug Administration says 25 pharmaceutical companies are voluntarily phasing out the use of antibiotics for growth promotion in animals processed for meat.
Citing a potential threat to public health, the agency in December asked 26 companies to voluntarily stop labeling drugs important for treating human infection as acceptable for use in animal production. The FDA did not name the one company that has not agreed to withdraw or revise its drugs...

if you stock up on antibiotics make sure you have probiotics too.
This is supposedly about livestock not domestic pets. Your local vet can still write Rx’s valid at your drugstore.
Wise especially with today’s more potent antibiotics which wipe out intestinal flora and leave you with, er, “a mess.”
I am kind of in sympathy of the action. However, it looks like this was achieved via coercion rather than through a formal process in law. Good results via bad methods is not an acceptable outcome, in my opinion.

Some will rejoice at this action until the price of meat rises even higher as a result. Then it will be, those evil, greedy farmers.
Goat milk is a pretty effective probiotic (not injectable).
Back in the day you could get Sweet Acidopholus that restored gut biotics.
No you can still GET pet antibiotics, they are just saying they wont use them on animals that we eat.
Yep. The move will drive prices up, if the antibiotics include those commonly used to cure problems or prevent livestock plagues. But do they? It may be interesting to find out more about it. The story might be exaggerated.

Feed mills have been adding antibiotics to the feed for healthy animals to promote growth. That is what will be ending.
My first thought was they're doing this because of preppers. Same song, second verse to the ammo shortage saga. Something is definitely up.
On one hand drug resistant “super-bacteria” are becoming a big problem, on the other hand even higher prices for beef, chicken & pork.

What people do not get is that this will not hurt the large producers who have vets on site. I WILL hurt the small cattleman who will now be forced to call a vet for nearly everything. $100-$175 just for the vet to show, and that is before treatment. Also, the vet is not going to ride out with you. That means you will have to bring the animal in. Big deal you say? What if you work a place that is 50-100 acres per animal unit? We find sick cattle, contain or rope them, and then treat them.
I even know cowboys who can do “C” sections.
Many vets will simply supply the ranchers, but the cost will be higher. When the next generation comes, maybe not.
Ya plain no flavor unpasteurized, etc.
I guess you can still get it. I would think that goat cheese and such would also fill the bill.
Not a gastro-enterologist or anything, but I know someone infamous who was healed by goat milk.
Intestinal flora have been the key to our omnivorous success.
