Could Ebola now be airborne?
Daily Mail ^ | 3/28/14 | DAMIEN GAYLE

Fears are growing that the most lethal form of the Ebola virus can mutate into an airborne pathogen, making the spread of the terrifying disease more difficult to check. It was previously thought the untreatable virus, which causes massive internal bleeding and multiple organ failure, could only be transmitted through contact with infected blood. But now Canadian researchers have carried out experiments showing how monkeys can catch the deadly disease from infected pigs without coming into direct contact.k

Possibly.
Don’t forget the diseased mice they let loose.

I saw a post like this on Free Republic a little while back:

“Crocodiles can climb trees: researchers

Some Freeper says: “Great. As if I didn’t have enough to worry about already.”

It was helped to be airbourne?!?!?!?!?!?

I've read that it is catchable in an airborne manner, although not easily. There's a good explanation in Wikipedia (I know, can't always trust it, but the info is there):

"Transmission through oral exposure and through conjunctiva exposure is likely and has been confirmed in non-human primates. Filoviruses are not naturally transmitted by aerosol. They are, however, highly infectious as breathable 0.8–1.2 micrometre droplets in laboratory conditions; because of this potential route of infection, these viruses have been classified as Category A biological weapons."

You are absolutely correct. A Ft. Detrick team deployed quietly to assess and burn the dead animals at the Reston quarantine facility. The CDC and HWO have classified three strains of Ebola; Ebola Marburg (Germany), Ebola Reston (Va, only airborne strain), and Ebola Zaire (most commonly seen). A good book on the subject is “The Hot Zone” for anyone interested in the subject.

The mortality rate is effectively 100%.

[no it's] 68%

"Survivors" invariably suffer major damage to kidneys, liver, and brain. Most require permanent custodial care and do not ever recover. They do not live very long either.

I would call that an effective mortality rate of 100%.

It was in the jungles, stayed in the jungles, until a bunch of morons decided to go exploring in the jungles and brought back all sorts of bugs with them.

I remember the movie “28 Days Later” and it all started because a bunch of animal rights crazies broke in and decided to liberate the apes. Morons didn’t realize that the monkeys were infected with something.

Well, thankfully (being the eternal optimist that I am) we are equipped to actually deal with this. In the past we didn’t know how to do a thousandth of the things we can do now.

it does actually; that is one of the good things about this.

It would be funny to know that Obama is pissing himself over having to figure out how to keep the country calm if this ever did break out in the US.

It totally freaked me out how realistic it is and how realistically the US government would react and how people in the stricken community might react.

There is a research “farm” near me that has lab mice.
About once a day the animal rights nuts try to get in the building.
They’ve climbed the fence, driven through the gate, tried to cut power, pretended to be reporters, you name it they’ve tried it.
Thankfully they haven’t gotten to anything too distressing.
But still, they are “plug dumb”.

Previously, the only airborne Ebola was Reston, which does not affect people. But a true airborne ebolavirus affecting people is a nightmare.
