The GOP Battle: Paul vs. Cruz
Poletical ^ | April 1st, 2014 | T. Carter

Posted on 04/02/2014 6:50:30 PM PDT by PingPongChampion

There is a fierce battle brewing between three sects of a divided Republican Party. The Rand Paul libertarians and the Ted Cruz social conservatives are drumming up support for what could be a bloody competition to rule the roost of 2016. In the safe middle is the establishmentarian moderates and the elites of the Republican Party, like Chris Christie and Marco Rubio. The most watched and most important battle, however, will be the battle between the GOP's two rights – the battle between Paul and Cruz.

In an interview with Vocativ, Rand Paul spoke of a Republican Party that requires a softer approach to social issues. In 2012, when Ted Cruz won his senate seat in Texas, the Washington Post likened him to a socially conservative crusader. What both men have in common is their strong commitment to the US Constitution and their strong support from within the Tea Party.

So if a US citizen living in London on a job has his pregnant US citizen wife join him for a week and she goes into early labor and produces a child, that child is NOT a US citizen?

Can be a citizen but shouldn’t be allowed to run for President. We have only had 44 Presidents. Even McCain shouldn’t have been qualified. Yes I know his Father was in the military but you know life isn’t fair. My son was born in Italy while I was stationed in Italy and he shouldn’t be qualified to be President. We have ONLY had 44 people as President. Certainly a qualification of being born in the US should be a mandatory requirement…..WE HAVE ONLY HAD 44 PRESIDENTS….44 people out of at least 2 billion people. We should make it as difficult as possible for goodness sake. 44 People!!!! That is it! We should be able to find someone qualified who was born in the US.

That is not true. He is not qualified under the constitution which so many have failed to read. Don’t get me wrog. I love the guy. Great American — just not born on our soil— i.e. “ natural born”. You know that if we had proven that that sorry poc president we have now was born in Kenya to his US Citizen Hippy momy — He was out. Right?

Just some info: This subject has been discussed ad infinitum—mostly before you joined FreeRepublic. Not your fault. You might want to check the archives. Just providing some info. Have a nice day.

Yeah, we know, I LOVE the guy, but..............

CATO is a better source for this information than you.

Cruz is fully American, and fully qualified to be president.

Read the law on the constitutional definition of “Natural born” . It will answer your questions.

RE :”I wonder, just speculation mind you, if some libertarians are becoming birthers because the opponent is the socially conservative Cruz. I wonder if they might find another argument if the opponent was the socially conservative Palin, Pence, Santorum, or Jindal.”

That is not the first idea that comes to my mind but if I cared about this I would search past posts from 2010 and 2011 of those Cruz birthers for comments looking to see if dissed the birthers back then.

I ridiculed the 2011 birthers back then with glee, esp Trump's chumps, so I can only find this amusing.

LOL, “”Move on to RAND.””, no thanks, he is too liberal for me.

Looking at your posting history I see that bounce between voting for Cruz, to attacking Cruz as unqualified, to being rabidly pro-Paul, to attacking Cruz as unqualified, to voting for Cruz, to being rabidly pro-Paul.

You are one confused fella.

Rand Paul: Time for GOP to soften war stance
...by softening its edge on some volatile social issues and altering its image as the party always seemingly "eager to go to war... We do need to expand the party and grow the party and that does mean that we don't always all agree on every issue" ... the party needs to become more welcoming to individuals who disagree with basic Republican doctrine on emotional social issues such as gay marriage... "We're going to have to be a little hands off on some of these issues ... and get people into the party," Paul said.

Rand Paul's immigration speech
...The Republican Party must embrace more legal immigration.

Unfortunately, like many of the major debates in Washington, immigration has become a stalemate-where both sides are imprisoned by their own rhetoric or attachment to sacred cows that prevent the possibility of a balanced solution.

Immigration Reform will not occur until Conservative Republicans, like myself, become part of the solution. I am here today to begin that conversation.

Let's start that conversation by acknowledging we aren't going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants.

If you wish to work, if you wish to live and work in America, then we will find a place for you...

This is where prudence, compassion and thrift all point us toward the same goal: bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society.

Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers.12 million more people assimilating into society. 12 million more people being productive contributors.

Rand Paul calls on conservatives to embrace immigration reform
Latinos, should be a natural constituency for the party, Paul argued, but "Republicans have pushed them away with harsh rhetoric over immigration." ...he would create a bipartisan panel to determine how many visas should be granted for workers already in the United States and those who might follow... [and the buried lead] "Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers...
