The problem with the Obama Admin is they view Russia as thinking like themselves. They seem to believe that Putin had some accord with their views on the global economy, peace making and cooperation to steer the world into a some leftist visionary future.
Russians do not think like Westerners or Easterners for that matter. Russians are very different.
The ludicrous “Re-Set” button concept disregards Russia’s entire history and imperial past. To understand Russia is to try to unwrap Rus and Kiev and the Byzantine alliance and then go forward through their history. Not easy and not easily understood as to the Russian psyche.
State apparently is either being disregarded or they don’t have the Russia specialists they once did.
