How can the US government exercise private property rights?

The US Government cannot be ‘private’.

Neither can it have rights - it has enumerated powers.

I agree that this was a way excessive show of force. Likely could have been done with half a dozen deputies.

Article 1 section 8 provides the enumerated power that specifically gives the Congress exclusive legislative authority in all maters whatsoever over the land in question.

The Federal government does not own property it oversees it for the people who are the owners of all public property. The FedGov are merely managers. Very incompetent and corrupt managers.

Perhaps you could unpack your reasoning a little?

I’m not seeing anything in Article 1 Section 8 that allows the government to assert private property rights on grazing land.

Unless the whole area is one enormous post office :0)

heads up people. This all links to Harry Reid, he controls the BLM shill that is doing this.
Im writing an article that ties it all together.
I wrote the only bio of Reid. Nothing happens in Nevada unless he says so.

Yup. I just can’t get into supporting this guy who decided he was going to ‘gibsmedat’ years before the habitat was ever decided. Should’ve paid his grazing fees back in 1993, rather than do some spurious “I personally negate these laws by fiat!” type of thing.

I don’t see that. Please be more specific.

Nothing in Art 1 Sec 8 allows this at all.

Mr. Bundy is willing to pay rent. TO HIS STATE. Not the government.

(NaturalNews) The Bureau of Land Management says its 200-man armed siege of the Cliven Bundy ranch in Nevada is all about protecting an “endangered tortoise.” But a Natural News investigation has found that BLM is actually in the business of raking in millions of dollars by leasing Nevada lands to energy companies that engage in fracking operations.

That raises the question of bison.

were there no tortoises when there were buffaloes?

The real problem seems to be one of legality. Who paid what when. I read here the rancher did not pay his grazing fees and the enviros did. His cattle are thus grazing on their land.

It’s like getting the permit at to demonstrate at the gates of Walter Reed Hospital.

Code pink let their permit lapse and the DC Chapter of Free Republic obtained it. Thus rather than seeing decrepit crones as they returned fron their night out, the wounded warriors were greeted with smiles and support.

Sorry, this guy misses the biggest point of all. Who owns the land? The US Government does.
___________________________________________________

WE THE PEOPLE own the land and they are supposed to be our servants. You know when you are confronted with trumped up excuses for heavy handed action. What the hell are they going to do with all the prairie land? Let it revert back to high grass, weeds and brush. If that ‘gasoline’ catches fire it will destroy the turtles and everything else. This is the lame-brained government every time. Just like starving all the calves because the idiots do not know what in the hell they are doing. They have their heads in a place where the sun does not shine. I suspect this is a contrived false flag where they want a confrontation to begin. This just might be where the insurrection begins.

This is astounding. "Our" government condemns governments in other countries if the dare to keep "spontaneous protests" under control. Our demands that nothing be done has led to Muslim Brotherhood (thankfully failed) government in Egypt, chaos in Iraq, supporting AlQaida in Syria, Nazi thugs in Kiev, what happened in Benghazi. In so many mideastern countries Christians are no longer safe.

But when it's a rancher defending his ancestral right to graze on his property? The feds stop him, violently, and killing his cattle, with the excuse of saving a turtle that does fine with the grazing.

Is it his land? Yeah. US citizens, not government employees own federal lands. "Our" government is out of control.

Our government sure is the hell out of control and it makes me sick to even live here anymore and not be able to do anything to change it.

His state doesn’t own the property. The federal government does.

How about I rent your house for 50 years and decide 25 years in that you don’t really own the house and I stop paying rent? I’m not moving out though because I’m willing to pay your ex-wife. Even though your house was not community property because you bought it before you married, I think she deserved that house.

That’s fair, ain’t it?

You’ve been on every thread the past two days defending this corrupt administration. You’ve got all your little talking points in a row don’t you? This is all about making more corrupt money for Harry Reid and you know it. It will not stop here, as the man in the video explains. They intend to run every rancher off “public” land (which you keep claiming they own) and then buy him out with our tax dollars. At what point are you willing to stop them? When they come knocking at your door? Sorry pal, it will be too late by then and you will have helped them in their mission, so there will be no one left to help you.

People yesterday were arguing the “who’s right according to the law” aspect of this situation.

I don’t think that facet has much to do with this at all.

This is “we’re fedup with the fedgov and going to resist”.

How about you live in your house for 50 years and suddenly someone decides that there is an endangered species of weed in your neighborhood and suddenly everyone must move out because the BLM/OPA/OFA and one of Harry Reid's corrupt cronies wants what is on, near, under and around your property? So he can sell it off piecemeal to corrupt developers and make a chunk of change off each one?

There is no danger to the Desert Tortoise. This is all a ruse to get ranchers off this land. Once they are off this land, they will not be able to stay in business and will be forced to sell out, which has been the intention all along. And then they will move on to the next location, and the next, and the next, until all farms/ranches/ etc. are under their control.

What is going on here is simply another purge of the Kulaks.

That’s not a comparable scenario. Bundy doesn’t own the land, he rents it. Well, he did, but he stopped paying rent in 1993.

I don’t doubt that there is an ulterior motive and I don’t doubt that there are corrupt politicians involved. The fact remains that Bundy doesn’t have a legal right to graze his cattle on the land anymore.

Does that necessitate an armed invasion to remove Bundy’s cattle? No.
