What the press is missing in Bloomberg's anti-gun push
Fox News ^ | April 17, 2014 | John Lott

Posted on 04/17/2014 8:04:47 PM PDT by richardb72

Gun control has largely been a top down effort. Michael Bloomberg’s latest announcement that he will spend another $50 million to push gun control – 2.5 times the amount spent by the NRA annually on political activities – is all too typical. Last year, gun control groups, largely due to Bloomberg’s money, outspent gun rights groups by about 7.4 to 1 on TV advertising.

With a net worth of $31.2 billion, Bloomberg can afford round-the-clock armed bodyguards, but he doesn’t recognize the need for others to have armed protection.

Despite his money, mayors belonging to Bloomberg’s Mayors Against Illegal Guns represent only about 2.5 percent of America’s cities and towns (885 out of over 35,000) and most of these members represent very small towns.

Since December, Bloomberg has merged with Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense, but despite frequent prominent media appearances and Bloomberg’s funding, as of today, Moms Demand Action has 18 thousand followers on Twitter. No membership information is available and if you want to donate to their cause you are told to write the check to Bloomberg’s Mayors organization.

By contrast, the NRA has over 5 million members, with 219,000 Twitter followers.

But this $50 million is not all the money Bloomberg is spending on the gun issue as it doesn’t even count all the other money that he is putting into the issue. While the precise amount isn’t known, Bloomberg is also spending tens of millions on “public health” gun research (here is one study that he supported). . . .

Bloomie should use his wealth to provide armed protection 24/7 to all US citizens.

What the press is missing in Bloomberg's anti-gun push

I don't know if this is what you're after, but I haven't seen a single one of them refer to him as a statist tyrant a-hole, an oxygen thief, OR the worst waste of skin since that guy who didn't like Jews.

Bloomie would be more credible if he would move into a two bedroom apartment in the SECOND highest crime rate neighborhood in New York - with ZERO paid security.

No means of protection other than the standard lock on the door that comes with the apartment and a phone to call the police.

If he lives there for 3 months, pays for things with cash - and walks the four blocks back and forth to his waiting limo (alone) every day... I'll never say a bad thing about him again.

Gun owners can very easily overwhelm the Doomberg $50 mil.

I propose that each gun owner donate $1.00 for each shotgun, rifle and handgun we own to our favorite pro-2A group.

By my reckoning, that would be on the order of $200 - $300 million.

Any of you up for that?

I’ve already sent mine in — no need to tell us which pro-2A group or groups you support, or even how much you donated. Just send them an extra donation FRom time to time between now and November.

Is there a FReeper out there who is active on Twitter and Facebook (I don’t “do” either) willing to take this ball and run with it?

So nice to see another $50 million put back in circulation.

Bloomy is the right guy for making gun buy-backs work.

Bloomy could simply offer to pay $1000 for every gun turned it, as long as it is accompanied by court records proving you’ve been convicted of a felony.

Then he’d actually be disarming criminals, rather than law abiding citizens.

OR......to disarm the mentally ill he could offer to pay $1000 for every gun turned it, as long as it is accompanied by a DNC membership card.

Let him throw all the rocks he wants... it’s in the form of his own wealth. The more he wastes, the better off everyone will be. Donating to NRA and GOA is the best thing we can all do. I know, I feel the same way about the NRA in a lot of respects, but they do have the front line and the organizational strength to get the job done. It’s common a common enemy type of relationship and the only option we have really. No one else has the strength to keep the idiot politicians looking voe their shoulders. I do wish they would stop giving away lame bags and hats and just use the dang money for it’s intended purpose though.

When ever I see Bloomberg, why do I always envision a “strap on” somewhere in his life.

A fool and his money are soon parted. Bloomie needs to go to his local gun shop to watch the hardware flying out of the display cases and off the walls. Oh, I forgot, he lives in the People’s Repubic NYC, they don’t have any gun shops.

I doubt that. I've never seen an animal where the asshole was on top. Seems like it'd be kinda messy.

I mean a real gun store where you can walk in and actually buy an AR-15 or a handgun? Like this place, where we visited and made a couple of purchases yesterday. I doubt, unless you are a LEO or a friend of the Commie Mayor, you can actually buy, and take possession of either in NYC.

And mind you, this is in California.
