Gov. Jan Brewer will not give ranchers and their employees permission to kill endangered Mexican gray wolves on federal lands.
The measure vetoed Tuesday was crafted by Sen. Gail Griffin, R-Hereford. She has been a vocal foe of the program by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to reintroduce the wolves into sections of Arizona and New Mexico, saying they are endangering not only cattle but also pets and children.
SB1211 would have spelled out that ranchers could take a wolf legalese for killing that was killing, wounding or biting livestock. It also would have legalized a guard dog that is protecting livestock killing a wolf.
And the law would also have permitted killing a wolf in self-defense or defense of others. In that case, though, the act would have to be reported within 24 hours to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Brewer, in her veto message, said she is a strong supporter of states rights. But

What’s up with Brewer? I know she’s not running for Governor again but has she switched over to the D side already?
No. No, she is not.

Did the wolves illegally cross the border?
Yep. What the feds don’t know, they can’t prosecute you for.
Looks like she has, indeed, gone over to the dark side. Used to live in Scottsdale, Arizona and my young’un was born there. Lots of love for that part of the state.
Noticed that McCain had invited Hillary to visit him in Sedona. They had to go and ruin that place, too. Did Christmas in the Red Rocks a couple of years ago. Really great experience.
Ok. So you can’t kill them on Federal Land. What if they show up on your land, in your back yard per chance? What if they are attacking your pet, your child, your spouse?
If you and kill a two legged jackal, why not a 4 legged wolf?
"Take" = kill.
Why doesn't she make someone sue to prove that, as the Left always does. This is what spineless RINO cowards like Brewer do -- speak as if the Progressives have already won.
As was mentioned above. Shoot, shovel and shut up. But if push comes to shove and the authorities are notified by someone else related to shots fired, “It was self-defense officer.”
Exactly.
“What if they show up on your land, in your back yard per chance? What if they are attacking your pet, your child, your spouse?”
Shoot, Shovel, and Shut up!
Beautiful state, and a gun owner’s paradise. Unfortunately, the writing on the wall could be any clearer. It’s going to be Colorado in three years.
Jan Screwer has gone over to the dark side.
Yup, Problem resolved.
That’s what I would do if I lived there, but I meant what is their law with respect to self defense, if it involves a 4 legged wolfie?
Put the wolf outside one of the windows of your house, break the glass, and put a cheapo .22 pistol on the ground by his front paws. Now call the police. Castle doctrine, you know.
