Affirmative action or trying to 'make' people equal is little more than Social Engineering..."the application of sociological principles to specific social problems." Like 'busing' children to distant schools to balance racial segregation proved to be a bad experiment in most cases. Election years provide a stage for politicians to 'commit' themselves to failed promises made time and time again...they do this for votes and We The People for the most part, fall for the empty promises again...instead of taking matters into our own hands and moving forward in our towns and cities. The dissolution of Affirmative Action gives me hope.....

“AA” is illegal, unconstitutional and wrong. It doesn’t matter if there are laws allowing it. Those laws are invalid and not binding.

It will be over sooner than later. The left is not reproducing themselves in numbers enough to replace themselves.

Class divisions are mostly ignored in admissions and hiring criteria, but in today's diverse society they often pose greater obstacles than race. The children of one-percenters such as Beyoncé and Jay-Z will have doors opened to them that are not open to those in Pennsylvania who, according to President Obama, "cling to guns or religion."

Victor Davis Hanson is wrong...

Please - all of you 'elites' - liberal and conservative - don't send our middle class children off to be 'bested' by your elite kids who were given every advantage in the world.

It's NOT a favor.

Filling up the bottom half of colleges is a FAVOR TO THE ELITES. It's not a favor to our kids. It makes the children of elites feel feel superior and condescending at the same time. And yeah, they know it... at the edges of their competitive 'win at all costs' ways of thinking....

Some of the children of elites need to know what it feels like to NOT be in the top half. They can learn that by going to schools only elites can get in to...

If Victor Davis Hanson thinks this is some big effing 'favor' for the children of the middle class he needs to read Malcolm Gladwell's David and Goliath: Underdogs, Misfits, and the Art of Battling Giants. No, our kids don't want elite charity designed to make elites feel better about themselves. Leave our kids out of affirmative action horrors... And if elites were kind they would realize they weren't doing blacks any favors by allowing them to be the 'inferior' ones in colleges either.

For the first time since I've been reading Victor Davis Hanson, I'm disgusted. I feel like vomiting.

RE :”Victor Davis Hanson is wrong..”

The college tuition/financial aid scam system is a huge redistribution system that rewards ADULT kids for their parents failures and vice-versa, punishes ADULT kids for their parents success, .

So while I had to get student loans because my parents worked, the kid from Baltimore whose parents were on welfare get the same college *free*(that is what we are paying for) . I see it every day here.

The 1%ers are a different case completely.

Their parents have so much $$$ that it doesn't effect them at all. That is why they are usually FOR it.

$200 K for undergrad is a scam no matter where you go to school, and for the middle class, it's in effect mortgaging their very lives. With rapidly shrinking employment opportunities in Obamanation, people should think twice about encouraging their kids in that direction (particularly since they will be subsidizing the leftist educational establishment that continuously undermines the US Constitution and promotes the social and economic insanity that is devastating this nation).

And we were even paying the tuition for the Marathon bomber.

You're right on this - no middle class person should mortgage their life so their kids can play ‘loser’ to the children of elites. A family doing without so their child can lose all their confidence is horrible.

Elites have done this to blacks forever - acting like it some big favor... but I sure don't want them doing it to our kids while basking in the knowledge that our families are also being destroyed the the debt. Yeah, $8,000 for a ‘Trans-gender Studies’ class is crazy. We can't let the elites destroy our children. We don't want or need their 'affirmative action' to fill the bottom half of their college classes so their kids feel superior. Let them compete with their own kind ... and we'll do the same.

It's not a question of college being ‘free’ or not... I don't want the bright children of the middle class being given ‘free affirmative action’ spots so the elites have kids their kids can beat. Really read Malcolm Gladwell’s book... Elites aren't doing this to ‘help’ blacks or middle class whites - they're doing it to give a leg up to their own kids.

Years ago I was at a law school graduation and George Steinbrenner was the speaker... he told the story of his son competing in college with a young man who came from a poor family... The son liked competing with the kid who probably had to work a job on the side to stay in school etc...

Anyhow the son goes to Steinbrenner and tells him the other boy is going to have to drop out of school because his grant or scholarship was ending. And the son wants the competition to continue. So Steinbrenner the father gives the school millions in a way that the young man never knows that he's been helped to stay in school. SO THE SON CAN CONTINUE THE COMPETITION. Setting your kids up to win was that important to him. Also allowing the other young man his dignity was important to Steinbrenner.. something missing in most liberal elites.

I went up to him after the speech and commented that I could see the admiration he had for this son because his son showed he was 'a warrior'. Steinbrenner liked that... and here's the funny part ( and not related to my point)... Steinbrenner's at the event by himself and apparently needed a foil for his comments to the graduates - so after my 'warrior' comment he moves me next to him in the rope line as he's shaking hands with graduates saying things like, "I can tell she's going to be a great lawyer' and I would agree with him - then he'd make a comment to the next person and I would nod in agreement. It was funny.... lasted for a few minutes until I walked off to be with the people I had come with...
