Hillary Clintons running mate.
The ideal candidate would be someone clearly equipped by experience to handle the presidency at a moments notice, and who was held in high esteem by the public; maybe even someone who exemplified a time when Americans felt better about their countrys prospects.
By that measure, there is at first glance one obvious choice: Bill Clinton.
He would be by far the most clearly qualified candidate for the job. More than two-thirds of Americans look on him favorably, and last year, 55 percent told Gallup they saw Clinton as an outstanding or above-average president.

Amendment XXII
1: No person shall be ELECTED to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was ELECTED President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once.
In this case Bill Clinton will be elected to the office of VICE President. Were he to succeed to the presidency, again he was not ELECTED President. He could not run for reelection after that term expired.

The Constitution, Article I, Section 3:
The Senate shall have the sole Power to try all Impeachments. When sitting for that Purpose, they shall be on Oath or Affirmation. When the President of the United States is tried, the Chief Justice shall preside: And no Person shall be convicted without the Concurrence of two thirds of the Members present.
Judgment in Cases of Impeachments shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust, or Profit under the United States, but THE PARTY CONVICTED shall nevertheless be liable and subject to Indictment, Trial, Judgment, and Punishment, according to Law.
Bill Clinton while impeached, was never CONVICTED. Thus the disqualification does not apply to him.

Bill Buckley had the crazy notion that Barry Goldwater could win the Presidency if he picked Ike as his VP. Of course Ike was excluded by the 12th amendment.
Anyway there is an obvious alternative for the Democrats--run Jimmy Carter for VP. He is eligible.
Even if Bill Clinton were not ineligible for the Vice Presidency, if he was on the ticket, the electors from New York could not vote for him unless he established residency in a different state than Hillary. Remember how Dick Cheney had to move back to Wyoming in 2000 so that the Texas electors could vote for him along with George W. Bush.

Perhaps they did choose their words more carefully when drafting it the first time. But was the language that was passed.

It would have been very easy to amend Article II to create a new class of ineligibility to the office, but this was not done.
Since the language of Amendment XII pertains to ELIGIBILITY ("But no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States") and since the criteria for eligibility to SERVE have not been amended (only the criteria for eligibility to be ELECTED - you can ascend to the office in other ways), I think WJC is clearly eligible to run for VP, presuming he establishes residency in a state other than New York.

I say he is NOT "ineligible to the office". He is ineligible TO BE ELECTED to the office.
Say he were Speaker of the House, and the President and VP were killed, for example. Where does XXII say he could not arrive in the office OTHER THAN BY ELECTION?
