Researchers at the New Jersey Institute of Technology advise that the next generation of biometric-equipped smart guns is as little as two years away from being fully mature.

These guns would use Dynamic Grip Recognition, which is a series of electronic sensors and microchips housed inside the grip of the handgun. These piezoelectric sensors record the user’s grip signature, which then either allows or disallows access to the trigger package.

“The way that you are applying pressure is a combination both of your musculature and the way your brain is trained to pull back on the trigger,” Dr. Donald H. Sebastian, senior vice president for research and development at NJIT, told Guns.com Thursday. “And that is both individual and reproducible.”

Gee, what could possibly go wrong with that?

Will Not Buy.

Will Not Comply if mandated for retrofit for existing guns.

My gun should be more reliable than my smartphone, not less.

I certainly hope that nobody ever has to fire their weapon after injuring or straining their hand...

A huge “no” to this.

Any gun smart enough to recognize it’s owner, is a gun which can be messed with by government.

No. Just no. Not today. Not in two years. Not ever.

No.

A gun the government can ‘turn off’ is a gun pre-confiscated.

Agreed. Absolutely not. Forced conversion/purchase of this WILL be the catalyst for revolution...mark my words.

We don't need "smart guns". We need smarter people.

No law will ever make that happen.

Or ends up in a situation where someone else has to fire the gun.

In the Miami shootout, didn’t one of the FBI agents get shot in the hand. How would have that affected any attempt to fire the gun after the injury?

I am certainly glad that I am at or near the end of my collection acquisition. I’d hate to be starting out with my first gun at this point.

With a universal "kill switch" that will deactivate all firearms on a signal from the White Hut.

I’m going to go out and get one.

As soon as every federal and local LEO uses them.

The sole intent here is not to provide smart guns, but to outlaw all others. CA did this with microstamping.

If they really do this right, they can also equip them all with GPS trackers, and micro-switches that allow the likes of Eric Holder to turn them off at his discretion.

Great Caesar's Ghost! Sounds like my kind of usable technology!

Sounds great, let’s mandate them for DHS, BLM, NYPD, etc.

Oh and by the way, the idea of a remote kill switch is not paranoia. I saw the website for some company trying to market RFID smart gun grips and they explicitly said there would be a remote kill switch.

Classic case of 'garbage in/garbage out'. Fill the NJ state legislature with garbage politicians, get garbage legislation.

There's nothing 'smart' about 'smart guns' except the political creation of the terminology. It's just another 'assault weapon'-type addition to the meme'. No one does this better than the Alinsky-ite democrats in NJ. They've turned it into an art form.

No thanks. My guns work just fine. They go bang every time I pull the trigger. Don’t need any more technology to FUBAR things up.

“And that is both individual and reproducible.”

And is different when calmly plinking at the range, and when panicked in a genuine life threatening situation!
