HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) A Hampton police officer shot an aggressive dog Friday while responding to a call about a stolen moped.
According to the Hampton Police Division, the officer responded to the 1200 block of Pansy Street around 9 p.m.
The person who called about the moped was walking with his unleashed dog toward the officer. Police said thats when the dog aggressively charged at the officer, who feared for his safety and shot the dog once in the upper body.
The medium-sized mixed breed dog was taken to a local animal hospital for treatment.
The officer was not hurt.
The dogs owner was issued a summons for failure to secure a canine license.
Hampton Police say the investigation is ongoing.
The owner must not read FR, if he did, he'd know that the cops will shoot any dog, of any size, anywhere, at any time for any aggression, real or imagined.
Meanwhile, what about the stolen moped?
Dogs should be on leash. Enough said.
Moral to the story is don’t walk your dog off leash like an idiot.
It’s the owner’s responsibility to protect the dog from itself and from cops.
The dog doesn’t know that a cop will shoot it, but the owner should, and now does, and I bet will walk another dog off leash again.
The dog took it. He has been apprehended. /S
The debate is over (gee, where have I heard that before?)
Thank God the police officer got to go home safely.
Nothing else matters.
Nothing.
I’m surprised anything about what lead up to him going home safely was even mentioned.
Owner, wrong. Cop, right.
There are some nutty ‘leash laws’ on the books...in the town I’m stuck in here in soviet Red Hampshire; the dog is considered in compliance with the leash laws EVEN IF LOOSE as long as he is ‘under the owner’s control’. WTF???
Four legs and a tail - aggressive.
“shot the dog once in the upper body.” Ummmm, was the dog walking upright?
Looks like they live out in the sticks, unaware of the existence of feral police.
Bull manure. I have a 35 pound mix. She looks mostly Lab. Don't know what all's in there, but I do know she has a heart full of affection. Everyone who comes into my yard gets the same treatment: She runs up to them and greets them effusively. In the early moments, that may look like she is attacking, but she isn't.
If the jackass in the article, armed or not, wasn't a "LEO" the dog wouldn't have been shot. And, dollars to doughnuts he also wouldn't have been bitten.
Might be so, but it really doesn’t matter at all what the law says.
Do what you know is right.
If a person walks a dog off leash, then the possibility exists for a situation to occur that can spin out of control far quicker than the owner can control, and it can result in a dead dog, a dead child, whatever.
If you love your dog, take measures to protect it. This world is a dangerous place.
Hey that’s great!
Guess what’s going to happen if a cop walks into your yard?
Guess...I mean, can ya guess?!
The dog is going to have a heart full of lead instead of affection, and it’s going to be your fault for being an irresponsible dog owner.
That’s all, nothing else.
Unleashed dogs are fair game?
My first impulse is to blame the cops. Then I remember the people all around me who can't manage their lives and even the simplest tasks. I am pretty sure you have a bunch of morons who go out--impulse buy dogs, the novelty runs out--they ignore dogs and dogs become a completely neglected and untrained nuisance to society. Much like their kids.
I mean, come on--we are dealing with a society full of the kind of people who kill themselves driving over medians because they are writing comments on Facebook about songs they like while driving.
Well even in your stupid world the punishment for disobeying this “law” isn’t death.
Brilliant police work by officer E.Fudd.
My stupid world is your stupid world too.
And the punishment for disobeying leash laws is MOST CERTAINLY the death of the dog.
ISN’T IT?
Yes, yes it is.
Welcome to our stupid world, and I really hope you don’t own a dog for the sake of the dog.
