UK 'journalists' epitomize snotty attitude toward U.S. gun owners

Maybe it's a resentment that goes back to their unsuccessful attempt to disarm subjects that started a rebellion and lost them a colony, maybe it's jealousy at being denied trust afforded their American cousins, or maybe it's just being aware they are subjects of a queen. Regardless, the snotty attitude toward U.S. gun owners, famously exemplified by unwelcome import Piers Morgan, is alive and well in the British press.

The story I referenced did happen, and I read about it in the Telegraph. As to whether or not it’s the norm, I’m willing to take your word for it that it’s not. However, I have read other stories along those lines, and always in the British press/website. So it does happen, or has happened, at least enough for Brits themselves to write about.

Myth.

Most of the weapons were simply melted down as they were needed for UK war production. After it was clear the Germans wouldn’t landing at Dover.

This ocean myth is just that. I’d like to meet the idiot who started it.

And I doubt what Americans think really bothers the British.

You seem quite happy to have the sissies of the British armed forces at your side. I wonder why we bother if that’s the American attitude.

BTW, America aint what it used to be either. American men neither. Frankly, you are as wimpy as we are, if we are supposedly a nation of wimps.

And you lot were boring everyone else even then with your boasting about winning the war singlehanded.

I wont deny that there have been some cases where common sense in the UK has been missing. But the tiny amount of tabloid cases are just that. Tiny.

But its always been legal to defend a British home and family, and in fact the last two govts have in fact STRENGTHENED THE LAW in FAVOUR of the HOMEOWNER.

A problem with Americans resides in the process the UK police undertake when investigating an incident, where essentially everyone involved gets temporarily arrested, hence the US belief that the Brits get arrested for defending their home, family or self.

I agree it looks odd even backward, but it isn’t, lol.

In fact the last case to make the news headlines (last year in Manchester) had a homeowner kill a burglar with a knife. That homeowner got nothing but commendation from the police for their actions and there was never any notion of charges.

In fact the burglars father publicly supported the man who killed his son (apparently a decent lad from a good family turned drug addict/junkie burglar, rather sad.)

False argument, and I say that as a pro-gun, gun owning Brit.

There are still (contrary to US myth) 2.3m legal weapons in the UK, and there are still hundreds of gun clubs and gun ranges. There are also many UK pro-gun/shooting groups.

Their gun crime/gun murder rate is equal to the NRA’s, if not even less. IE very low, almost nothing.

And if I said the same, I would be an anti-American.

If you hate the British that much, we wont fight at your side anymore, wont work hand in hand with the CIA/NSA, and if you suffer another 9-11, then we will just shrug our Limey shoulders and you can go whistle for any basic human sympathy.

If being the first to support the US after 9-11 and the first to fight at your side( as we have done since 1917) at the loss and maiming of thousands of British lives in Iraq AND Afghanistan gets us this attitude to Britain from the US, then I wonder why we bother. I find the level of Brit-hatred on this (conservative, pro western, pro-anglosphere) site both shocking and surprising. Some of it disgusting and offensive.

Ok. I’m willing to stand corrected. Thanks for your detailed response. I’m glad to hear that you say self-defense is a respected right in Great Britain.

As for “cases where common sense” is missing... we have plenty of those in the US, too.

Do you get limited on the number of shootin irons you can have? Do you have to jump through a lot of hoops to acquire one? Or ammunition?

Two wars. And we beat your asses in two others. True, America hasn’t tried to actually win a war since 1945, but you can thank the US left for that.

If you actually think the US saved Britain in two world wars, or won those wars for everyone else, you really need to learn your history.

You helped Britain, and for that we in the UK are truly grateful. We are, we will never forget the sacrifice of the millions of young American men and women who fought at our shoulders from 1917 to 1918 and 1941-45, even those who served in 1940 as part of our own armed forces. I have long argued that there should be a statue to the 1940 volunteers in London.

But this myth that America saved us and the world is not only bad history, it insults the people of Britain, and even more so it insults the millions of British men and women who fought and died or were injured in 1914-18 and 1939-45, the latter a war where we British stood alone against the evil of Nazism and Fascism.

It is only those who never served in those wars who shout from America about saving/not speakin’ German. Those young Americans who DID know exactly what the British people suffered, as they were actually there.

Britain saved itself during the Battle of Britain. But it took the US to defeat Nazi Germany.

Hitler was ok with Britain being neutralized, while he turned his attention East.

As well as insults the millions of Canadians (who fought with us from 1914 and 1939), Australians, New Zealanders, Indians, S Africans, and the millions of Commonwealth and Empire troops who fought and died in those wars, from France and Belgium to Burma and Hong Kong. Norway to East Africa, the Atlantic to the Pacific.
