House Democrats will participate in the new select committee on Benghazi, Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) announced Wednesday, naming five members of her caucus to serve on the panel.
Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Maryland), the top Democrat on the House Oversight and a veteran of previous Benghazi investigations, will serve as ranking member on the panel, which will be led by Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.). The other members are Reps. Adam Smith (D-Wash.), who serves as ranking member of the House Armed Services Committee; Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), who serves on the spending panel overseeing the State Department budget; Linda Sanchez (D-Calif.), who sits on the Ways and Means subcommittee on oversight and veterans; and Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.), who also serves on the Oversight Committee.
Pelosi met briefly with Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) to discuss the Benghazi panel on Tuesday afternoon. Staff members were continuing talks on how the panel would work Wednesday morning.
The two parties have been at odds over the rules governing the select committee, with Democrats calling for equal authority when it comes to subpoena power, accessing documents and deposing witnesses.
The panel is charged with getting to the bottom of the attacks in September 2012 on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya that left U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans dead.
Many Democrats, notably Assistant Leader James Clyburn (D-S.C.), have called for a boycott of the panel for fear that their participation will legitimize a process they've deemed a political witch hunt designed to embarrass President Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
A separate group of Democrats has urged party leaders to get on board, if only so they can access the documents and witnesses that emerge during the probe and defend the administration from what would otherwise be a one-sided investigation.
Boehner earlier this month named seven Republicans to the select committee.

They would rather all thirty or forty in Benghazi had been slaughtered by the regime’s allies, the terrorists of the brother hood, than expose the abject incompetence and aiding and abetting America’s enemies, friends of democrat rule.

I was hoping they would refuse to appoint anyone. That way the Republicans would be able to get somewhere. Cummings & the others will try to create a circus, hoping any findings will lose legitimacy thereby.
And you’d think he’d have sense enough to stay shut up before the thing even starts-having a loudmouth like him as my attorney would be one of my worst nightmares, ever...

Did a quick check:
Smith and Schiff have law degrees and each was a prosecutor for a year or so.
Sanchez has a law degree and specialized in labor law.
Duckworth’s father was a Marine and she joined the Army, became a helicopter pilot, lost a leg in the Iraq war.
Don’t worry Elijah Cummings will provide enough fireworks and no doubt he’ll be throwing out an entire deck of race cards for our enjoyment.
So Cummings is the only one not having some tie. Makes me wonder even more if Nan was using this to get him off the IRS committee. Hmmmm?
Elijah was a lib lawyer for years but I’d guess he was more qualified to be a leftist politician with the mouth on him. :)
Cummings will try to make the whole thing a complete circus.
Duckworth is there so Dems can play the Victims Meme, so Dems Media allies can scream, “THOSE MEANY REPUBLICANS ATTACKED A HANDICAPPED VETEREAN!!!”
This is all designed to divert TV coverage away from the actual truth, to a “politics as Usual meme that can be ignored.

I couldn’t believe they’d send a gay Ambassador to an Islamic country, wondered about that from the beginning of this mess. There’s so many other countries he could have gone to that wouldn’t have made a difference.
I have little doubt you’re right. At the same time I think Gowdy will maintain control and the other six Republicans are well qualified to be there, moreso than the Dem bunch.
That graphic is so true. Elijah doesn’t have it in him to lead the charge on both these issues, he just doesn’t have that many meltdowns left in him. :)
Cummings will dance however he’s told to. His masters have much more on him than has been revealed of his criminality. Their file is much thicker than the FBI’s ... which is easily accessed by the other criminal oligarchs.
