… FINALLY, LET ME ADDRESS THE MEMBERSHIP ISSUE, AN ISSUE THAT HAS LEFT US DIVIDED, DISTRACTED AND DEFENSIVE. A YEAR AGO, THIS MEETING SAW A RESPECTFUL AND CIVIL DEBATE OVER MEMBERSHIP POLICY. IN A DEMOCRATIC PROCESS, A STRONG MAJORITY OF THE VOLUNTEER LEADERSHIP OF THIS MOVEMENT FROM ALL ACROSS THE NATION VOTED TO WELCOME GAY YOUTH INTO SCOUTING. IN ALL CANDOR, I WOULD HAVE

SUPPORTED GOING FURTHER, AS I DID IN OPENING THE WAY FOR GAYS TO SERVE IN CIA AND IN THE MILITARY. THAT SAID, I ACCEPT THE VOTE OF A YEAR AGO, AND I STRONGLY SUPPORT IT. AND, IN ITS IMPLEMENTATION, SCOUTING MUST PROVIDE A WELCOMING AND SAFE ENVIRONMENT FOR GAY YOUTH, A PLACE WHERE THEY CAN BENEFIT FROM SCOUTING AND NOT FACE BULLYING OR DISRESPECT.

BUT, I ALSO BELIEVE STRONGLY THAT WE MUST PUT THIS ISSUE BEHIND US AND MOVE FORWARD, RE-FOCUSING OUR ENERGIES AND OUR PASSION ON MAKING SCOUTING AN EVEN BIGGER, BETTER PROGRAM FOR KIDS. I AM, AS YOU MUST ALREADY KNOW, A HARD-EYED REALIST. GIVEN THE STRONG FEELINGS – THE PASSION – INVOLVED ON BOTH SIDES OF THIS MATTER, I BELIEVE STRONGLY THAT TO RE-OPEN THE MEMBERSHIP ISSUE OR TRY TO TAKE LAST YEAR’S DECISION TO THE NEXT STEP WOULD IRREPARABLY

FRACTURE AND PERHAPS EVEN PROVOKE A FORMAL, PERMANENT SPLIT IN THIS MOVEMENT -- WITH THE HIGH LIKELIHOOD NEITHER SIDE WOULD SUBSEQUENTLY SURVIVE ON ITS OWN. THAT IS JUST A FACT OF LIFE. AND WHO WOULD PAY THE PRICE FOR DESTROYING THE BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA? MILLIONS OF SCOUTS TODAY AND SCOUTS YET UNBORN. WE MUST ALWAYS PUT THE KIDS AND THEIR INTERESTS FIRST. My guess is that they are already seriously hurt, for him to have said that.

I’m currently an Weblos Den Leader, and while I am disgusted at this whole gay-crap, I am appreciative that Gates is trying to mend the issue.

.... of course, O’Bama is supposed to be the default President of the BSA but he has refused (I suppose because he doesn’t believe in the scout oath).

In practice I don’t believe that last years rulings will change very much. I don’t think that many openly gay kids are going to be attracted to scouting anyway. As long as we can keep Gay Leaders who may have recruitment desires out I think were OK.

So I take Gates at his word, and hope that the issue is over. We’ll see soon enough.

It’s not over when he says he would have liked to have seen it go further. Sounds like he wants to reintroduce the issue as soon as he can without destroying the organization.

I take Gates at his word as well. The phrase “morally straight “ means nothing to him. His pro-sodomy position makes him unfit to lead any organization. May he shortly either repent or stand before God.

In my area they’ve been dying for decades, consolidating constantly and selling properties; we lost our Sea Scouts as well. Parents I know that were involved in scouting years ago complained about the focus on fundraising rather than actual outdoors.

Certainly, Gates is in league with Satan. I seriously doubt that a "strong majority" voted for the BSA to bend the law "morally straight."

The current administration is also in the same league with their push for same sex marriage and gays in all positions of the scouts. Gates has strong connections with the current administration and wants to please his bosses. Other cowardly scout executives fear losing funding and the support of the military, given that scouting is a big business.

They have given up their integrity, and like termites systematically destroying a foundation of a wooden house, the BSA organization will eventually crumble because its foundation has been compromised.

NOV 1992 – NAMBLA sent a letter to BSA Chief Scout Executive Ben Love in which NAMBLA predicted that BSA would eventually succumb to homosexual demands. The letter was also published in the NOV, 1992 NAMBLA Bulletin.

Dear Mr. Love, (Chief Scout Executive, BSA)

At its 16th membership conference, held in Chicago, August 7-9-1992, the North American Man/Boy Love Association unanimously adopted the following resolution:

“NAMBLA calls on the Boy Scouts of America to cease its discrimination against openly gay or lesbian persons in the appointment of its scout masters. This will permit scouts to be exposed to a variety of lifestyles and will permit more of those individuals who genuinely wish to serve boys to do so.”

I feel especially honored to have been asked to alert you of this resolution. I have also been a scout and a scout leader and share with so many in NAMBLA affection for the movement.

We recognize, of course, that the action for which we call is inevitable. What a great added contribution your organization will make possible to all the boys and girls who participate in it when you take this step. May it be taken in the near future.

We share a common mission — to bring greater understanding and light and purpose to the young as they grow. We invite you to join with us in cherishing individual integrity, and in seeking the opportunity for every boy and girl in our country to find their own truth. We encourage you to help every person associated with your organization to be able to express those values from themselves which to them represent for themselves the Good, the True, and the Beautiful. As we work together toward these ends Light will guide our way.

It's still early in the schism, but I believe TL-USA will not welcome Mormon Scouts and Scouters. I imagine the Roman Catholic Church will not be sending their units over either. TL-USA has a strong orthodox evangelical Christian foundation.

The most disturbing aspect over the battle for gay scoutmasters was the silence of the Girl Scouts. If I had daughters they certainly wouldn’t be in the Girl Scouts; they apparently settled that debate decades ago in the deviants’ favor.
