War stories from a Nazi interrogator, now a Mill Valley retiree
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | June 21, 2014 | Kevin Fagan

Ed Holton was 21 years old when he found himself face-to-face with Reichsmarschall Hermann Goering, Adolf Hitler's second-in-command. It went nothing like what he'd expected.

Holton was a U.S. Army intelligence officer interrogating the imprisoned Nazi in preparation for the postwar Nuremberg trials, but Goering wasn't cracking loose about his slave labor programs or how many Jews he'd ordered gassed.

“They were embedded with the soldiers who stormed the beaches of Normandy so they could not only interrogate freshly captured Nazi prisoners, but also use loudspeakers to shout at the enemy that all hope was lost.”

Until now, I still learn something new about our boys back then.

"When you do a job like we did, you determine what your strengths are," he said. "After you learn how to handle Nazis, other people are no problem for the rest of your life."

What a guy! He should have gotten into labor relations on the management side.

I was pleasantly surprised to see an entry at Wikipedia about the Ritchie Boys. A documentary movie was made about them. Check out the external links listed there. Perhaps their story will live on.

He was a very patience man. I would have set fire to them all.

FTA: That chamber also earned Schellenberg a special medal from Hitler, “and he was very proud of that,” Holton added. “I asked him how many people he gassed, and he said 345,245 was his weekly total at one point.

“He was very happy to tell how he did such a wonderful job using his initiative to solve a problem.

Now substitute the killing of children, women & men by denying them medical care - obamacare.

It is being done now everywhere there is socialized medicine. The socialists/democrats are doing mass murder but only going about slowly. In England their Liverpool pathway had 80,000 people on a death list (not to receive medical care) that the patient & family members was on aware of. 3 days later you are dead.

Here’s another worthy companion piece:

Whatson’s Whizzers: Operation Lusty and the Race for Nazi Aviation Technology, by Colonel (Ret) Wolfgang Samuel, USAF. Watson refers to Major General Harold Watson, who led our efforts to secure German jet aircraft, engines, rockets and related technology at the end of World War II. It’s a much more compelling story than the “Monuments Men,” (IMO), with far-ranging implications for national security. The seeds of our victory in the Cold War were sown (in part) by Watson and his men. Of course, a good Hollywood liberal like George Clooney would never make a film about Watson, because he led an effort to secure military technology, rather than works of art.

The importance of Watson’s efforts cannot be overstated. Boeing (along other defense contractors) had access to the information—and the German scientists and engineers—located by the Air Air Corps intelligence team. After viewing plans for more advanced Luftwaffe jets (on the drawing boards at the end of the war), a Boeing engineer sent a famous letter to his colleagues in Seattle, with details on the proper wing angle for jet aircraft being designed by his company. German engineering data was instrumental in development of both the B-47 and B-52, among other weapons systems.

One more interesting sidelight: Colonel Samuel, the author of the book, was a refugee in post-war Germany where his mother was raped (and his grandfather killed) by communists. His step-father was an American airman, whom his mother met and married after the war.

If he knew how to talk to Nazis, he must have little trouble in knowing how to talk to the Bay Area fascist homosexual community.
