Mormons oust Ordain Women's Kate Kelly over women priests
BBC ^ | June 23 2014 | BBC

Posted on 06/24/2014 7:28:37 AM PDT by PoloSec

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has excommunicated a prominent backer of ordination of women priests, her advocacy group has said.

Kate Kelly, founder of Ordain Women, was notified of the ruling on Monday, a day after a trial by judges in the Mormon Church, Ordain Women said.

The group said the Mormon Church hierarchy deemed her an apostate for her contravention of Church doctrine.

The Utah-based Mormon religion boasts more than 15 million members worldwide.

According to a letter informing her of her excommunication obtained by the Deseret News, a leading Utah newspaper, Ms Kelly will be barred from some acts of church worship for at least a year.

"You are entitled to your views, but you are not entitled to promote them and proselyte others to them while remaining in full fellowship in the Church," wrote Bishop Mark Harrison of Virginia.

She can be readmitted to the fold if she shows "true repentance", including ceasing "teachings and actions that undermine the Church, its leaders, and the doctrine of the priesthood", he wrote. 'Tragic day'

Ms Kelly said the church's decision, taken by an all-male panel of judges, was "exceptionally painful".

He will be a god,

The Doctrine and Covenants

Section 132

Revelation given through Joseph Smith the Prophet, at Nauvoo, Illinois, recorded 12 July 1843, relating to the new and everlasting covenant, including the eternity of the marriage covenant, and also the plurality of wives (see History of the Church, 5:501–7). Although the revelation was recorded in 1843, it is evident from the historical records that the doctrines and principles involved in this revelation had been known by the Prophet since 1831.

1–6, Exaltation is gained through the new and everlasting covenant; 7–14, The terms and conditions of that covenant are set forth; 15–20, Celestial marriage and a continuation of the family unit enable men to become gods; 21–25, The strait and narrow way leads to eternal lives; 26–27, The law is given relative to blasphemy against the Holy Ghost; 28–39, Promises of eternal increase and exaltation are made to prophets and Saints in all ages; 40–47, Joseph Smith is given the power to bind and seal on earth and in heaven; 48–50, The Lord seals upon him his exaltation; 51–57, Emma Smith is counseled to be faithful and true; 58–66, Laws governing the plurality of wives are set forth.

16Therefore, when they are out of the world they neither marry nor are given in amarriage; but are appointed angels in bheaven, which angels are ministering cservants, to minister for those who are worthy of a far more, and an exceeding, and an eternal weight of glory.

17For these angels did not abide my law; therefore, they cannot be enlarged, but remain separately and singly, without exaltation, in their saved condition, to all eternity; and from henceforth are not gods, but are aangels of God forever and ever.

18And again, verily I say unto you, if a man marry a wife, and make a covenant with her for time and for all eternity, if that acovenant is not by me or by my word, which is my law, and is not sealed by the Holy Spirit of promise, through him whom I have anointed and appointed unto this power, then it is not valid neither of force when they are out of the world, because they are not joined by me, saith the Lord, neither by my word; when they are out of the world it cannot be received there, because the angels and the gods are appointed there, by whom they cannot pass; they cannot, therefore, inherit my glory; for my house is a house of order, saith the Lord God.

19And again, verily I say unto you, if a man amarry a wife by my word, which is my law, and by the new and beverlasting covenant, and it is csealed unto them by the Holy Spirit of dpromise, by him who is anointed, unto whom I have appointed this power and the ekeys of this priesthood; and it shall be said unto them—Ye shall come forth in the first resurrection; and if it be after the first resurrection, in the next resurrection; and shall inherit fthrones, kingdoms, principalities, and powers, dominions, all heights and depths—then shall it be written in the Lamb’s gBook of Life, that he shall commit no hmurder whereby to shed innocent iblood, and if ye abide in my covenant, and commit no murder whereby to shed innocent blood, it shall be done unto them in all things whatsoever my servant hath put upon them, in time, and through all eternity; and shall be of full force when they are out of the world; and they shall pass by the angels, and the gods, which are set there, to their jexaltation and glory in all things, as hath been sealed upon their heads, which glory shall be a fulness and a continuation of the kseeds forever and ever.

20 Then shall they be gods, because they have no end; therefore shall they be from aeverlasting to everlasting, because they continue; then shall they be above all, because all things are subject unto them. Then shall they be bgods, because they have call power, and the angels are subject unto them.

21Verily, verily, I say unto you, except ye abide my alaw ye cannot attain to this glory.

22For astrait is the gate, and narrow the bway that leadeth unto the exaltation and continuation of the clives, and few there be that find it, because ye receive me not in the world neither do ye know me.

23But if ye receive me in the world, then shall ye know me, and shall receive your exaltation; that awhere I am ye shall be also.

24This is aeternal lives—to bknow the only wise and true God, and Jesus Christ, whom he hath csent. I am he. Receive ye, therefore, my law.

25aBroad is the gate, and wide the way that leadeth to the bdeaths; and many there are that go in thereat, because they creceive me not, neither do they abide in my law.

The total count is up to 12 - this is another September six -a purge of anyone who doesn’t agree with their control. This is not Christian behavior it is cult control. I know many of these people personally and they really do believe and there is precedence for agitating for change in Mormonism and getting it.

The reason Tom has not been ex’d is because he has had the ‘second anointing’ a top-secret ritual that guarantees (seals) your godhood on you.

That's Chapter 17 from Maxine Hanks' 1992 edited book, Women and Authority: Re-emerging Mormon Feminism. Hanks was ex'd as one of the September Six.

Chapter 17 is Quinn's intensely footnoted (heck, the 106 detailed footnotes are longer than the article) short article, Mormon Women Have Had the Priesthood Since 1843.

Quinn, of course, was ex'd as one of the September Six primarily for his publication of work on post-Manifesto polygamous marriages.

Kelly may have been ex'd, but she certainly had history on her side.

Yes, Tom Phillips has had his Calling and Election Made Sure - he's written and spoken about the experience along with others - but I don't believe Tom Dehlin has.

I support Dehlin more than anyone out of this new group; his work is outstanding and presents opposing views.

Rock Waterman seems like a nice guy and I enjoy his work, but I've never accepted his "Joseph Smith, Jr. wasn't a polygamist" argument. I'm not certain, but I don't even remember Denver Snuffer making that argument.

Holy underwear Batman!

You evil Inmans need to take a good look at what the terrible woman was doing and why it so mightily and rightly upset the righteous Saints.

Essentially, she was demanding that women should not be denied the priesthood, or in other words, they be treated as equal to men.

Think of it!

This loathsome woman was asking for Sacred Vessels to get their own planet and celestial harem when they reached the afterlife. How is that going to work for their gaggle of studs who have been promised an eternal orgy? How would you like to keep all those commandments like abstaining from alcohol, tithing and wearing magic garments for naught?

You can't possibly expect for Prophet to discover that Joseph and Brigham were wrong, that sacred scripture needs to be rewritten, and that 200 years of Church doctrine needed to be overturned, like they did when they decided to admit Blacks to the Priesthood, can you? At least not without a powerful incentive such as the threat of loss of their tax exempt status for their business empire.

Shame on you all for criticizing the delightsome Saint Leaders on this matter!

For those who would not otherwise know what the phrase "barred from some acts of church worship" means, it means that she would not be allowed to offer the opening or closing prayer at a Church meeting, to teach a class, or to give a talk in Sacrament Meeting.

It also means, per Mormon Doctrine, Kelly can never live in Heavenly Father's eternal presence minus her "get into God's presence" temple recommend card (kind of like a Monopoly "get out of jail" card)...

John Dehlin?

Yup. The Mormon Elite considered Dehlin way too threatening as well and just booted him, too.

I don't agree with Dehlin's liberal social views, but he's been quite energetic in pinpointing the real historical and doctrinal (& other) objections so many Mormons are experiencing...Here's some of what I posted previously re: Dehlin:

(Hey, if Mormon women were on equal terms then Emma could have taken up her few-dozen extra husbands -- as she threatened hubby Joseph Smith that she would do -- long ago)

Ya see, Zak, tis a-ok for the Mormon Elite to sleep with a LOT of women...but tsk...tsk...tsk...whenever the females clamor for the same "privileges."

John Dehlin, not Tom and no he hasn’t had the Second Annointing, neither did Kate or Rock Waterman. It is pretty rare and usually only given if you are ‘church broke’

Dehlin’s work is very good and Rock’s issue is that he believes the modern LDS church has gone astray. I do disagree with his Smith was never a polygamist.

Dehlin hasn’t been booted yet. He is up for excommunication but the ‘court’ has been postponed until June 28th because his Stake President desired ‘de-escalation’. I think it is because they were hoping this would go away - with Kate being ex’d it won’t. I expect he, as well as Rock Waterman will also be ex’d.

This is news because these kinds of actions rarely happen.

In a civilized world this would happen often, and would not be worthy of a news story, except perhaps within the membership of the church.

Actually, the Saint females had such privileges in Kirtland, Far West and Nauvoo.

Check the record and you'll find that the Saints were practicing polyandry as well as polygyny in those days ... especially when the male was away on mission trips.

The founders were Holy Rollers in more ways than one.

Whatever HAPPENED to Emma???

Eliza was a devout Mormon.

At age 38, she became Joseph Smith's 14th plural wife (in addition to Smith's lawful wife, Emma).

In 1842, after learning Eliza was pregnant, Emma Smith beat Eliza with a broomstick and
knocked her down a flight of stairs, causing Eliza to miscarry Smith's baby.
Wow!!

I guess ol' Emma got VAPORIZED by GOD!!!

We know that multiply him thing sure didn't work out!

Check the record and you'll find ... Polygamy: How it all got Started

Actually, it all got started when Fanny Alger turned up pregnant with Joseph's baby. It seems that the 16-year old lass, who was living with the Smith family as their charge, had been molested by the Prophet.

Poor Joseph was in some trouble facing allegations of adultery and statutory rape. Plus, the infant would be born out of wedlock, a big deal in those days.

Then, that fine analytical mind blessed with a third grade education hit upon a brilliant solution. If Joseph were to marry the girl, then he could get merry all he wanted without consequence. You can't commit adultery with your wife, can you? You can't rape her, can you? The child won't be born a bastard, will it? Problem solved!

The scriptures you cited came almost a decade later.

Yes, John Dehlin. Sorry for the typo. And he hasn't been ex'd or disenfellowshipped because of the delay of his court.

Alan 'Rock' Waterman hasn't shut down his blog and hasn't been ex'd or d'shipped, but is certainly going out with a bang, if you've read his June 22 blog.
