The US State Department on Tuesday commented on the murder of three Israeli teens, on the same day the funeral for the three was held in the attendance of hundreds and thousands of Israelis.
State Department spokesperson Marie Harf struck a cautious tone over who was to blame for the kidnapping, asserting that "the investigation of the abduction and murder indicates the involvement of Hamas in the affair, but at this stage we have not determined that Hamas is responsible."
The statement was reported by Yedioth Aharonoth's Washington correspondent Yitzhak Ben-Horin.
Harf's ambivalent comment comes despite the IDF's announcement last Thursday of the identities of the two main Hamas terrorists behind the abduction, Marwan Kawasmeh and Amar Abu-Eisha.
Additionally Josh Earnest, the White House Deputy Press Secretary and Special Assistant to US President Barack Obama, said "Israel and the Palestinian Authority (PA) are cooperating in the investigation."
"The fact is that Hamas and Palestinian leaders praised the abduction, and the reaction of the Israeli government is understandable; however, the two sides are obligated to prevent an escalation in the situation," added Earnest.
Earnest's words mirror those of Obama, who on Monday urged "all parties to refrain from steps that could further destabilize the situation. As the Israeli people deal with this tragedy, they have the full support and friendship of the United States."

MENE MENE TEKEL UPARSIM
Mr. Kerry and the US State Dept are RESPONSIBLE
and paid for the murders.
They should look in their mirror to see the murderers.
Ask Bibi . . . he knows
They will probably announce that it was the Gambino crime family or perhaps a rowdy WWE tag team.
Should not rush to any rash conclusions... it could very well be a youtube video responsible.
Maybe they were just victims of the non racist ‘knock out’ game.
It's incomprehensible that an alliance of everyone else hasn't blown ISIS off the face of Earth.
hussein is covering for his bros.
I guess it COULD have been obamas’ henchmen....Oh, wait—that’s one and the same.
..................
They're probably telling the truth. Israeli's aren't stupid, why would they share intelligence with agencies, like State, which support terrorist groups.
If it wasn't Hamas, it was probably some rednecks from Kentucky that pulled it off. Gunowners. Religious. Pro Life. Probably vets, maybe combat vets. As I recall, that was the warning issued by Homeland Security soon after Obama took office. And it's not a political thing, the report began under his predecessor.
Me, I'd worry more about our Somali immigrants. But they didn't do this. They're busy in Syria.
They're objective for now isn't Israel, rather a stable geographic base from which to reestablish the Caliphate.
Interesting though, you speak of unlikely allies confronting the terrorists. Israel. Jordan. The Saudis and perhaps a gulf state or two. Perhaps Egypt, maybe Turkey. Not too long ago these were America's allies. Before we lead from behind.
I didn't forget the Kurds, they've been Israel's allies for decades.
Marie Harf .. total Leftist HACK, incapable of making a basic moral determination (like all Leftists).
“They will probably announce that it was the Gambino crime family or perhaps a rowdy WWE tag team.”
No, it was a hateful to Muzzies video that made the Hamas terrorists abduct the 3 young men. You’ll see the video any moment now on the Web. Yes, really.
