Border Crisis Scrambling the Politics of Immigration Policy
The Washington Post ^ | Saturday, July 12, 2014 | Karen Tumulty and David Nakamura

Posted on 07/12/2014 6:42:37 PM PDT by kristinn

Until now, the politics of immigration have been seen as a no-lose proposition for President Obama and the Democrats. If they could get a comprehensive overhaul passed, they would win. And if Republicans blocked it, the GOP would further alienate crucial Hispanic and moderate voters.

But with the current crisis on the Southwest border, where authorities have apprehended tens of thousands of unaccompanied Central American children since October, that calculus may be shifting.

Republicans and even some Democrats have accused Obama of being insufficiently engaged in a calamity that many say he should have seen coming.

And the president’s own party is deeply divided over what must be done now — particularly on the sensitive question of deporting children who have traveled thousands of miles and turned themselves in to U.S. authorities to escape from the desperate situations they faced in countries such as Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador.

The emergency has also renewed questions about the administration’s competence, reminiscent of those raised during the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill, last year’s botched rollout of the health-care law and more recent revelations of mismanagement that jeopardized care of patients at veterans hospitals.

Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-Tex.) agreed in an interview: “I would like to see him place greater emphasis on the interests of these children who are refugees from extreme violence and instability in their home countries” instead of “an acceleration of the deportation process at the expense of these children.”

But O’Rourke added that he has been surprised by the anger he has heard toward the refugees from many of his El Paso constituents, who “feel like we can’t take care of everyone, and these children and their families are gaming the system.”

We can’t take care of the entire world? Really? Some of these liberals are idiots. Ok, all of them...

And that this came from El Paso constituents - a town full of liberals and entitlement-grabbers, is amazing! They get mad when they see that they may not get theirs if too many others are in the wagon.

Scrambling the Politics of Immigration Policy

That was the idea from the very start...and the Washington Post knows it.It's right there on Pages 35-128 of Rules For Radicals.

An uncorrupt UN would be spending big bucks to help these children get back to Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador.

The real UN will do nothing. These self-made refugees are expendable pawns to them.

Did you see the border agent Jeanine Pirro interviewed a few minutes ago? He said we’re releasing MS13 members who admit to multiple murders at home.

Its starting to remind me of Saddam Hussein throwing the doors of the prisons open.

I went through many expat blogs, the one warning about Honduras crime had a link but it was in Spanish...I did get some links to those talking about life in their Central American County with articles over the past year. Nothing about the children, gangs, or increased heavy crime...mostly pick pockets, opportunist thefts, and some break ins.

I can’t find a real blog article in past year complaining heavily about anything, but I know Panama has had some gang and petty crime increases in past years. Only one woman was ready to leave Honduras...??? Expats seem satisfied living there, but maybe those who aren’t have left.

The only reason it’s a “crisis” is because Barry and his commie ‘RATS have convinced their toads in the state controlled “media” to call it a “crisis”.

No money for foreign welfare without spending cuts in domestic welfare.

Expats live in a bubble of wealth. In my parents country I have 2 maids, a driver, and security. That is something anyone can get used to. God was extra good to non Indian South Americans, but they lost their way and God’s protection.

People with money live like Kings in “emerging economies”, and expats have nothing to compare their current situation to.

Expats are not a valid source to measure a decline in a society.

The answer to this type of “crisis” is to militarize the border and lock it down 100%.

"And if Republicans blocked it, the GOP would further alienate crucial Hispanic and moderate voters."

This is crap. Virtually all polls show that "moderate" voters OPPOSE amnesty and open borders.

Evidently, but some of them are normal people who teach in local schools and are not in gated communities etc. I realize the travel companies exaggerate and don’t give accurate info.

I have been doing this research for five years due to looking at retirement places....there has only been a few mentions of certain cities not to live due to crime...it’s the lack of UPSWING in the comments of new crimes or raise in crime levels that concerns me....we are hearing it due to the children on the Border crisis. I hear it here...and I read newspapers in some places.

... "Operation Tug at the Heartstrings" is currently underway and being used by the Changers of America. It is very hard to defend a point of view that goes against the "Parental" and "Motherly Instincts" of helping children in distress. This is a very well thought out operation that began at least 4 years ago.

....Once the "Operation Tug at the Heartstrings" campaign gets rolling and the innocent looking poster children are chosen and splashed all over the MSM .... tugging at the heartstrings of a nation comprised of low information voters .... The motherly and fatherly instincts will be activated in the Low Information nation ......

.... Heck ..... To even think of sending these poor Child refugees back to their horrid and violent meat grinder countries of origins will be a certain death sentence for these poor innocent defenseless children .... should be an unthinkable stance by a loving humanitarian person. (At least that is the narrative that will be verbally vomited out of the mouths of every Democrat and Immigration reform activist and supporter.)

... In short .... The Republicans and the Tea Party will be portrayed and DEMONIZED as wanting to literally ... Kill the Children .... and Send them to their DEATH ..... Heck ..... Do the Republicans and Tea Party even have even a tiny loving compassionate bone in their collective evil bodies? .....Good luck on trying to defend against that one folks. This is a tough uphill fight for us all.

There is nothing wrong with “pulling at heart strings”. We have to love other people, regardless of where they are from.

The problem is Obama’s false pretense. He lies, and it is another one of his crimes against humanity to destroy many innocent people, as a means to an end.

Guatemala and many orher countries recieve millions of our tax payers money to care for the poor. There is no reason for them to come. There is no work for them.

May God help us all

EXCELLENT MUST SEE 6 MINUTE BILL WHITTLE VIDEO!
Bill skillfully skewers the limousine leftist hypocrites on their phony “feel good” posturing on ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION.
Please help this one also go viral!

This has gone too far. Blacks in inner cities are upset they don’t get the attention these invaders get. Jessie Jackson seems to have placed the interest of blacks over dem politics.

States are getting la mordida in the form of the caretaking of the “kids.” So they are getting bribed not to get incensed enough to actually repel the invasion, which the Constitution gives them the right to do.

So long as America’s views do not rise any higher than bread and circuses, that is what America is going to get.
