Dems’ Plan B disintegrates: Bill to reverse Hobby Lobby ruling can’t clear filibuster
The Washington Times ^ | July 16, 2014 | Tom Howell Jr.

Senate Democrats’ effort to reverse the Supreme Court’s “Hobby Lobby” ruling on birth control could not overcome a Republican filibuster Wednesday, exposing the partisan divide over how to balance women’s health rights with religious liberty ahead of November’s congressional contests.

The chamber’s 56-43 vote was not enough to green-light the “Not My Boss’ Business Act” for final consideration, even though Republicans Sens. Susan Collins of Maine, Mark Kirk of Illinois and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska broke party ranks and voted to put the bill on the floor.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Nevada Democrat, changed his vote to “no” at the last minute so he could once more bring up the bill, which would require corporations to insure birth control or other legally mandated services when offering health plans.

“It’s an essential part of women’s health and should be part of an employee’s package, and not something she has to go and add on later,” Sen. Maria Cantwell, Washington Democrat, said.

The legislation authored by Democratic Sens. Patty Murray of Washington and Mark Udall of Colorado was more political than practical — the Republican-led House would not have taken up the measure.

But it provided Democrats a way to woo women voters amid fears of poor turnout this fall.

The party says the bill is necessary because an all-male majority of the Supreme Court ruled owners of closely held corporations do not have to insure forms of birth control that violate their moral beliefs.

No fan of the RINOs but I suspect they voted yes to force the democrat’s hand at which point Hairy Roid voted NO.

Wasn’t Harry Reid able to invoke the “nuclear option”, to blow up the filibuster once and for all, making everything a simple majority?

>>>Collins, Kirk, Murkowski vote with Rats. Sigh <<<

Actually, Collinrat, Kirkrat and Murkowskirat voted with the other rats.

Nothing to be surprised at or sigh . . . these are all democrats wearing republican robes, or more correctly - wolves in sheep’s clothing.

Well, they didn't say it was a good plan!

That's why it was Plan B!

It worked perfectly. It will come up again in September after normal schedules return as an election time issue to stoke anger among the Sarah Flucke types and drive the angriest horn dogs to the polls.

Since they are discussing “Women’s Health”, how about this suggestion for preventative medicine. When you lay down cross your legs.

Harry . . . here is a simple solution, just invoke another nuclear option and make yourself and your party the sole decision making body in America . . . please, please do - and then come November, when WE are the majority we can impeach the whole lot of you including your halfrican boss. We won’t even drag it out!

Yep, doesn’t cost a cent and it’s 100% effective.

Well, not 100% effective. There was that one woman 2014 years ago.
But there are exceptions to every rule.

This law would give the HHS Secretary, Sylvia Mathews Burwell, a political hack, carte blanche to create and enforce whatever requirements she or Obama want to on insurance companies and private employers (including small businesses). The only exception would be for houses of worship, and the existing, limited accommodation for religiously-affiliated nonprofit organizations would remain.

The Religious Freedom Restoration Act, which passed the Senate 97-3 and the House unanimously, would be rendered irrelevant beyond individuals. I do not know how this would impact a privately owned business with a single owner. And who knows what would happen with state level religious freedom laws.
