Chris McDaniel's Lawyer Explains Why Thad Cochran's Black Voter Outreach (shortened)

Full Title: Chris McDaniel's Lawyer Explains Why Thad Cochran's Black Voter Outreach "Took Mississippi Back 50 Years in Race Relations"

Three weeks and one day after Mississippi's Republican runoff ended, attorneys for state Sen. Chris McDaniel held a press conference -- their second -- describing what might constitute a challenge of Sen. Thad Cochran's win.

"There's already enough evidence to file the challenge," said Mitch Tyner, the lead attorney for the insurgent Republican.

That did not mean that the campaign had found more votes cast by Democrats than votes separating Cochran from McDaniel. "There's really not a vote number threshold," said Tyner. (Mississippi law prevents anyone from voting in one party's primary and the other party's runoff for the same election.) It meant that the state had played hide-the-poll book, and made it difficult to trace how many such votes were cast.

"Call us naive," said Tyner. "Call Chris McDaniel naive. He had no amount this amount of election fraud was going on. In my heart, I believe Chris McDaniel won the primary and a runoff was not necessary."

Tyner was joined by State Sen. Michael Watson, a colleague of McDaniel who asked why more Republicans weren't outraged at how the campaign ended. When they saw the ads paid for by a firm paid by the NRSC, the ads that warned black voters that McDaniel wanted to suppress their vote -- this, when the campaign was only protesting illegal votes -- the Republicans should have exclaimed something like "Dear God, you improperly used my money."

"Where is Reince Priebus?" asked Watson. "Where is the Republican Party? Where is the leadership that comes out and says, that was wrong, and that will not happen again?"

This is Slate so you can see how they play with the Headline to generate glee among their progressive viewers.

But they do accurately quote some of the lawyers statements at this morning's press conference.

Here's some more:

Tyner went even further. "The activities of the Cochran campaign are abhorrent," said Tyner. "The Cochran campaign, through their race-baiting -- and let me tell you something, this is US senators, this is coming straight from the top -- took Mississippi back 50 years in race relations. Michael Watson will tell you, as a conservative white man in the Mississippi legislature, his fellow black senators have a level of discomfort when they begin to deal with him."

He repeated the charge. "The Cochran campaign, through race baiting took us back 50 years," he said. "United States senators contributed money for ads to call Chris McDaniel a racist, and to motivate black Democrats, through hatred, to come out and vote for Thad Cochran." But I got news for Slate and the rest of the Left. You don't mess with conservatives. You see how conservatives are kicking ass on Cochran-Barbour?

You're next!

This is not a good situation. It will be difficult for Mcdaniel to come out of this looking good regardless of outcome now.

The whole thing is lousy and all of us here agree with that.

I don’t know the politics down there. If it’s a strong republican state that will go to the republican regardless, I’d say fight on.

However, if there’s a chance a democrat can come in here and win the seat, I’d say Mcdaniel right should take this right up to the point that they ask for another election, and then concede the election to the Thad, and ask for unity among the party.

I’m not voting Thad Cochran if even Chris McDaniel personnally begged me too. They better get busy getting that 51st senator from somewhere else as far as me and my family are concerned. I am voting democrat the first time in life if Cochran is on the ballot.

The detestable Thad Cochran must be destroyed. His behavior was absolutely abhorrent and unconscionable, and cannot be rewarded. Concede the election to that foul thug? Are you serious?

Thad Cochran delenda est.

Unity isn’t going to happen. This wasn’t just a spirited campaign, this was criminal theft of an election riddled with fraud with the full cooperation and funding of the party establishment. People should go to jail for this.

Maybe you have honorable intentions but McDaniel should never concede, never. It’s saying that it’s ok to cheat your way to victory, that illegal is ok if long-term goals are met. No, not true, never. Stop the voter fraud at any cost.

Sorry nikos, Thad Cochran is a RINO Senator who (along with Mitch McConnell) MUST be defeated in the 2014 election cycle. It would be better if it is done by McDaniel replacing Cochran on the general election ballot but, failing that, if necessary by conservatives voting for Cochran’s DemocRAT opponent in November.

The incredibly despicable behavior by McConnell and Cochran can NOT be allowed to be rewarded.

REMEMBER MISSISSIPPI!!

IMHO no conservative should vote for Cochrane, period. If a Democrat wins, well at least the Republican establishment will no that they better treat conservatives with respect. Besides, as Republican as SC is, the Democrat will be turned out next election.

As a poster who generally posts for party unity, there’s no way anyone should vote for Senator Cochran if McDaniel’s claims are proven. It’s one thing for a GOPe candidate to fairly compete and win. Using racist appeals to Democrats and fraud to win? NO WAY DOES THAT GET A PASS!

I read this also goes all the way up into the GOPe leadership, like Senator McConnell. I want more proof of that, and I might very well get it if McDaniel has his day in court. If it IS true, then I retract everything I’ve posted about coming together and supporting Mitch in order to win the senate.

The entire establishment of the party, especially leadership, must be removed from power. They’re not on our side, and the Cochran debacle proves that 100%.

Well, there may not be a third party candidate against Cochran. I haven’t read that there is. MS hasn’t gone third party since 1960, when it rejected both JFK and Nixon.

THE most effective way that Cochran can be defeated (should he survive the McDaniel challenge) in the general election is to VOTE FOR THE ‘RAT OPPONENT (Childers). The winner of this November’s Mississippi US Senate election will be either Cochran or the ‘RAT.

ANYTHING other than voting for the ‘RAT would be a meaningless “feel good” vote. It’s time for us to draw political blood from the RINOs warring on us and the ONLY way to do that is to defeat them by any means necessary.
