The Obama Administration Will Seize Land from the Lakota Sioux if They aren’t Stopped

The only barrier standing in the way of another shameful broken treaty with our Native Americans is the U.S. Congress.

The federal government is planning to take the South Unit of Badlands National Park and turn it over to the Department of the Interior, to have it administered by the National Park Service. The NPS was in the news last year when they barricaded our national monuments and prevented elderly WWII veterans from seeing their memorial during the sequester. The NPS put up barriers along scenic look-outs so drivers couldn’t see Mt. Rushmore, and closed park entrances across the country. These brown-shirted federal agents now intend to take and control thousands of acres of Sioux land.

This intended seizure by the Obama administration reads like something out of the history books, and not the part that makes you want to wave the American flag:

“Thousands of tribe members will be affected by the land-grab. Some residents will be forced to relocate, and many more others will lose their income from grazing allotments on the land – a result which will ultimately force any remaining independent cattle ranchers out of business. In addition to all this, Tribal members will lose their share [of] income from entrance fees collected at the adjacent North Gate fees of the Badlands National Park – a punitive measure which will further compound the existing economic depression on a reservation where the average annual income is around $8,000 per year.”

The Black Hills once belonged to the Lakota Sioux in a treaty signed by the U.S. government. These sacred lands were taken from them in 1877 after gold was discovered there by an expedition led by General George Custer. This shameful act by the U.S. government can be somewhat explained away by the history of the times, when a fierce war raged between Native Americans and new settlers and bigotry about the rights of non-whites ruled the day.

What excuse does the Obama administration have for their actions today? And if Congress passes this bill, what excuse will they give to the voters who put them in office?

Here’s a petition. Here’s your representative. The Obama administration shouldn’t get away with acting like a 19th century thug and the U.S. Congress shouldn’t allow it to. The Lakota Sioux deserve better. We all do.

Seems to me there’s a bunch of empty houses in Detroit.

This is just insane - if I were living off “free stuff” I’d be even more pissed. And how is bringing in uneducated, disease carrying, future voting “gimmedat”s going to help Zuckerman, Gates, etc?

And Gov Patrick says oh don’t worry - “the feds will pick up the tab”? The feds don’t pick up any tab without first confiscating it from us.

Some can out-terrorize even OB's pals

In 1970, several members of AIM, including Dennis Banks and Russell Means, traveled to Mt. Rushmore. They converged at the mountain in order to protest the illegal seizure of the Sioux Nation’s sacred Black Hills in 1877 by the United States federal government, in violation of its earlier 1868 Treaty of Fort Laramie. The protest began to publicize the issues of the American Indian Movement.[2] In 1980, the US Supreme Court ruled that the federal government had illegally taken the Black Hills. The government offered financial compensation, but the Oglala Sioux have refused it, insisting on return of the land to their people. The settlement money is earning interest.

...................................................

AIM members continued to be active at Pine Ridge, although Wilson stayed in office and was re-elected in 1974 in a contested election. Violent deaths rose, and more than 60 political opponents of his died violently during the next three years. In June 1975 in what has been called the "Pine Ridge shootout", two FBI agents were killed near Jumping Bull Ranch, and found to have been shot execution style. Three AIM members were eventually indicted for the murders: Darryl Butler, Robert Robideau and Leonard Peltier, who had escaped to Canada. Darryl and Robideau were tried in 1975 and acquitted. After extradition, Peltier was tried separately and convicted in 1976. He is serving two consecutive life sentences.

Are we going to start giving land in the USA back to the people who were here before we got here?

We’re not going to have much left, if we do that ... LOL ...

A LOT of blacks are going crazy over this, a few I know did a complete 180 on the Kenyan, and I told them what do they expect? The Democraps just use blacks for votes, they use taxpayer bucks as bribes - make blacks jump up for that carrot on a stick. Then when the Democrap gets elected *BANG* they stab blacks in the back. I mean imagine that: They are using the excuse that illegals are coming here “because of drug gangs” and we should spend $3.7 BILLION (B for BILLION) on them. Meanwhile blacks are going through the same crap in inner cities, and oh boy, they love it when illegals are given priority over them.

Hopefully this will come back and bite Democraps in the ass big time when it comes to the black vote. All that needs to happen is a small fraction of blacks going 180 and Democraps will never hold another elected office again.

Look at this, this was posted today on Youtube. Blacks holding a rally AGAINST Obama!

Wikipedia:
“In 1765, a Saône exploring and raiding party led by Chief Standing Bear discovered the Black Hills (the Paha Sapa), then the territory of the Cheyenne. Ten years later, the Oglála and Brulé also crossed the river. In 1776, the Lakota defeated the Cheyenne, who had earlier taken the region from the Kiowa. The Cheyenne then moved west to the Powder River country, and the Lakota made the Black Hills their home.”

Well that's certainly one way to spin history!

I've never pursued any “tribal” rights, but I do have a valid legal claim to them, via my documented unbroken maternal line of Blackfoot Sioux lineage.

The Lakota Sioux tribe absorbed what was left of my own peoples extremely decimated “tribe”, along with several others, when the supposedly “final treaty rights” were written.

I'm mostly “white”, and one of the reasons I've never tried to force myself on the Lakota, is out of respect for both them, and also my grandparents, who chose otherwise for their children.

I will always support their tribal rights.

For those who don't, fair warning, there are many people like myself who do and will.
From every state, and every conceivable walk of life.

It's pretty obvious their land is now coveted by others due to vast oil deposits that can only now be economically mined.
While I haven't kept any type of watch on tribal leaders, it seems the Lakota government is about to hit the financial jackpot for their very valuable property rights.

I still won't apply to be recognized by the tribe, but I do back their sovereign property rights, as a USA citizen.

So will most USA citizens, mixed breed or not.

WOW, I saw the black woman in Baltimore, I think it was, and another group in Chicago - they were calling zero the worst president ever and the woman was furious that her daughter can’t go outside and play and no one does anything and then they import these kids for whatever excuse.

If Obama loses the black vote that would be the most incredible irony! Too bad the GOP is too inept to make hay out of this.

4. Someone with lots of money see's potential in the area for a summer resort associated with say Sturgis and said to Barry "I Want". Lot's of money goes through that area in just a few days.

That's usually how developers get other peoples land. Politician in the pocket the favorite tool of white collar thieves.

The Lakota claim the Black Hills, but the fact is, they pushed the Cheyenne off that land and took it from them in the latter part of the 18th century. They have less of a claim to that land than white men.

Well now, there's some twisted logic for ya -

It never WAS valid - and based on suppression of who the Indians really were, how many they were, and their cities/civilizations.

Property rights?

Firstly, Indians were killing each other a lot, and taking land from one another. Before everything was civilized, there was lots of genocides going on. I’m not saying the white man did anything better, but let’s be honest. The reservations need to go and the tax dollars need to stop. That is a form of slavery.

In other news, they’ve determined that the Indians weren’t even here first. They’ve found remains that predate everything Indian, artifacts and remains. It should be noted that the remains were white boys.

Based on that, I should be getting reparations and my land back etc etc. Instead, I choose to earn a living, move to follow work if needed, and provide for my family.

Really liked your posting on this topic.

Aside, does anyone know what the legal authority is for the Natl. Park Service (or whatever it’s called) to claim land? It must be part of the Bureau of Land Mgt., I guess, so the question applies there, as well.

The Congress should cut their budgets to funding maintenance and Rangers in National Parks, while eliminating about 80% of the bureaucrats.
