Chris McDaniel: I Beat Thad Cochran by 25,000 Votes

Six weeks after the primary runoff election, Mississippi State Sen. Chris McDaniel is launching his formal legal challenge of the election results, saying the evidence is so conclusive that he will be calling for courts to recognize him as the true victor of the race rather than calling for a new election.

“Chris McDaniel clearly, clearly won the Republican vote in the runoff,” McDaniel attorney Mitch Tyner said at a Monday press conference. “I say that very assuredly because that’s what the mathematics show. It’s not what I’m arguing. After the election, we did some post-election polling. We determined that of the Democrats that did cross over, 71 percent of them admitted they will not support the Republican in the general election. When you take those polling numbers and you go in and do the mathematical regressions, you can see that Chris McDaniel clearly won the runoff by 25,000 votes.”

“The short answer is we’re not asking for a new election,” Tyner continued. “We’re simply asking that the Republican Party recognize the person who won the runoff election.”

The campaign of incumbent Sen. Thad Cochran (R-MS), who was certified by the Mississippi Republican Party as having won the runoff by 7,667 votes on July 7, fired back, saying McDaniel had “made repeated and baseless allegations of fraud and misconduct” since the election.

I am no fan of Cochran and disappointed he won the runoff. However, the theory by which McDaniel’s attorney is claiming a victory is absurd.

Find 6,000 bad votes and protest. If you can’t, just walk away and wait for next election.

That’s some fancy lawyering. Beats counting the votes I guess.

Conservatives should vote for the Democrat in the General when the GOPe candidate won with Democrat votes in the Primary.

Fraudsters should lose.

I must say, this is a strange approach to winning due to fraud.

I find it hard to believe that statistics and not outright identification of sham votes/voters will suffice.

Hopefully, the description provided is too abbreviated.

I’m 100% behind McDaniel, but I sure hope they’re not serious about that plan to declare him the winner based upon regression analysis of polling numbers!

That’s nuts.

Put a different way: if that concept bears fruit, get ready for the ‘rats to hire Nate Silver to do their own “regression analyses” in every damn race in the country in 2014.

I’m pretty sure it’s just legal bluster. Sure hope so. Hope McDaniel prevails and gets a new election and wins that one by a landslide.

From the linked article....

....The evidence, presented to the public in the form of affidavits that will be used in McDaniel’s forthcoming official challenge of election results, is hundreds of pages long and encompasses nearly every one of Mississippi’s 82 counties.

At the press conference, McDaniel announced he will be using such evidence to file a formal challenge of the runoff results with the state GOP executive committee. Ten days after he files the challenge with that body—which, given its extensive ties to the GOP establishment in the state, is expected to rule against the Tea Party-backed McDaniel or just simply ignore the challenge—McDaniel can take the challenge into state court.

“It’s been an interesting six weeks since the 24th. We’ve been very, very busy. We’ve covered the state as well as we could with hundreds of volunteers, but justice has no time table, and yet here we stand. They asked us to put up or shut up—well, here we are. Here we are with the evidence,” McDaniel said.

Affidavits of what? More people swearing they voted for him than the number of votes he got in the official election numbers?

What, if anything, has been decided in Federal Court regarding the McDaniel campaign’s application that was heard two weeks ago?

The Constitution needs to be amended to make the MAXIMUM age for a US Congressman or Senator 65 years old. That will get rid of the often seen legislator who probably doesn’t have the mental capability to scratch their asses; from voting on legislation that affects US ALL.

By that time, their staff and lobbyists tell them how to vote anyway, and they probably do well to not piss themselves, or remember what state or district they’re from.

I suppose term limits would fix most of this.

the problem is the state law allowing Democrats to vote for either side in the primary

but then insisting that they must vote for the party in the general that they voted for in the primary.

My guess is that he has people attesting to inappropriate practices, such as not exchanging the voting books with the Democrats to stop inappropriate crossover voting (by those who had voted Democrat in the same primary on the original day) and persons who were encouraged (paid) to vote.

If you have enough of these over enough precincts, the argument may have a chance when it gets to court.

I agree. This is getting very close to Al Gore's exit polling rational in FL. Very close, indeed. We DO NOT want that nonsense dragged out in every close election from now to eternity.
