Only 19 Paterson Students Ready For College
Fox News NJ ^ | December 1 2014 | Tamara Laine

Paterson, New Jersey (My9NJ) -

In Paterson, New Jersey only 19 kids who took the SAT's are considered college ready. This means that they scored at least a 1500 out of 2400 on the standardized test, and this number is truly shocking considering how large the school district is.

Paterson resident Jason Williams is one of the lucky ones. He just graduated high school last year and has been enrolled in college since September, after taking the SAT's three times determined to score over 1500. He says that the key to his success was not falling victim to the streets.

“Just last summer, my friend and teammate, he was shot and killed that summer and that really affected me,” he said.

Derrick Fritts was shot during National Night Out on the streets of Paterson and wasn't found until the next day. Williams said most of the football players stopped paying attention to school after that, but that's when he buckled down.

Rosie Grant, the Executive Director of the Paterson Education Fund, said that the cards are stacked against the students in Paterson.

“These kids who are now seniors have gone through seven superintendents in their tenor at Paterson public schools and with every administration change, there's a reworking of what the schools are supposed to be doing,” she said.

However, the Paterson school district said that they no longer use SAT scores to gauge students' success.

Out of tens of thousands of students only 19 scored over a 1500 on the "kinder" "gentler" easier SAT test ,,, years ago the SAT added a third section making the max possible score 2400 ,, so getting a 1500 is equal to what us "old timers" would think of as a totally inadequate score of 1000... This is why Obama and the rats are winning ,, they own the brain dead generation .. the cream of that crop goes to college for remedial math and English that we were doing back in grade school.

Key take-away -- There are two ways you can get ready for college:

1) You can act white
2) You can be lucky

Hard work? Self-reliance? Solid family background? Hey now -- don't go all racist on me!!!!

This in a state which spends the most per pupil in the country, in a country which spends the most per pupil in the world.

Of course PATERSON is probably an ABBOT School District, which means the taxpayers in the rest of the state get to FUND this “education” per an unlawful edict of the State Supreme Court no governor or legislature in the state has had the courage to defy!

That will help you pass the S.A.T.

Clearly, the big problem in this community is police brutality. Let’s spend billions to combat it.

You’re right; “No Child Left Behind” was supposed to get these daycare centers off the taxpayers’ backs as well. There is no “education” taking place; they are simply housing and feeding children while parents do whatever they do (work, get high, whatever).

Public school teachers are the primary beneficiaries of the Poverty Industry (hence automatic Democrats).

As far as I’m concerned Tamara Laine, the author of the piece, flunked her own little journalism test by failing to mention or even allude to the total number of students.

19 out of how many, Tamara?

100? 1000? 10000? 100000?

Or maybe you just can’t deal with numbers higher than 19?

“These kids who are now seniors have gone through seven superintendents in their tenor at Paterson public schools...”

So, Paterson has tenor superintendents. Do they also sing for tax dollars?

How about altos and sopranos? I want baritone superintendents, too.

Hahahaha!

Dean Wormer: Where are the other two—Stratton and Schoenstein?
Hoover: We can’t find them, sir. We looked everywhere, but—
Dean Wormer: Never mind. Did you boys see your midterm grades yet?
Hoover: They’re not posted yet, sir.
Dean Wormer: I’ve seen them. Mr. Kroger, two C’s, two D’s and an F—that’s a 1.2 grade point average. Congratulations, Kroger, you’re at the top of the Delta pledge class.
[Bluto gives Kroger a congratulatory nudge]
Dean Wormer: Mr. Dorfman.
Flounder: Hellooooo.
Dean Wormer: 0.2. Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life, son. Mr. Hoover, president of Delta House—1.6. Four C’s and an F. A fine example you set. Daniel Simpson Day has no grade point average. All courses incomplete. Mr. Blu— [looks up to see that Bluto has stuck pencils up his nose] Mr. Blutarsky. 0.0.

The Paterson School District wiki has them having several high schools. I'm insufficiently motivated to add up all the enrollment figures, but it seems there are several thousand high school students.

-——This in a state which spends the most per pupil in the country-——The education system is for educators, not students

When students are not judged by their SAT scores, there is no real education involved in the process of rounding up kids and imprisoning them in class rooms

A couple important pieces of information were left out of this article. First, how many Paterson high school students actually took the SAT? Surely all Paterson students didn’t take the test. It wouldn’t be a huge surprise if most of the junior and senior class didn’t take the test. Generally those not bound for college don’t bother taking the SAT. That is, unless taking the SAT is required by the state or school district. Of course, we have no idea whether the SAT is required or not because the article doesn’t tell us.

sounds about on par for the dem plan

educate them enough to barely function in order to either end up in poverty... or just above.

this will result in those people requiring government assistance just to survive.

and who do you think they’ll vote for when they need more govt assistance?

yup... you guessed it. the same people that made sure they got the minimal education in the first place.

Of course the Abbot School District. Bud Costello is a Paterson native.
