The statistic is interesting. Of the most admired figures on the right in John Hawkins survey, two out of three are black:
1) Scott Walker (63)
1) Clarence Thomas (63)
1) Thomas Sowell (63)
Race I think here is mostly an accident. What the three men have in common is that they are respected without being controversial or especially partisan.
Scott Walker has kept his national presence light and is mainly known for local reforms. Clarence Thomas has been a quiet force advancing conservative ideas on the court in a slow and steady fashion without the volatility of an Alito. Sowell is currently a leading conservative scholar who avoids mendacity and partisan hackery.
Its an interesting phenomenon that two of the leading elder statement of the conservative movement are black. Its especially interesting since liberals would have trouble pointing to two equally intellectually weighty and influential black figures dominating their side.
While I do think that race is an accident here, its interesting to note that Sowell and Thomas are respected largely for the opposite qualities of the self-appointed black leaders on the liberal side. Theyre respected for being contemplative and measured leaders who dont need to shout to make themselves heard. Theyre deep thinkers. Its hard to think of more opposite figures than Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson.
And that contrast is also a measure of how much damage liberalism has done to the black community.
I don’t think it’s the internet so much as that most of these things are transcribed, and the person doing the transcribing writes what they think they hear. I notice it a lot lately, too.
Drs Sowell and Williams are definitely in the top 10.
The left has lowlifes like Sharpton... people who have turned the civil rights movement upside down from protecting the rights and dignity of all to protecting black thugs and criminals...
That's because the black men on our side aren't there BECAUSE their black race.. they're there because they're our trusted leaders...
He has a lot of company.
Yes, their race doesn’t mean a damned thing to any true Conservative.
Conservatives are actually interested in the content of a man’s character.
And in this case, the brilliance of the man’s mind.
And, Old Sarge, let’s not forget our most admired man, Ronald Reagan, who signed into law with his own hand, the Immigration Act of 1986.
None of these people, NONE of them, are perfect, and none of them are the total answer.
WRONG!
As a true Conservative, you must judge a threat and act upon it.
I know all about Reagan, how he cut and ran from Lebanon, raised taxes, and granted amnesty - HE’S JUST NOT GOOD ENOUGH, say certain Freepers.
To them, Jesus was a RINO.
This bromance people have with West is unfounded.
Well, I guess nobody's perfect. Rick Santorum also jumped into the Trayvon column without knowing the facts.
my list would look pretty different I guess
Thomas Sowell dropped down on my list with his sustained attacks on Ted Crus
Wrong? I think not.
I do not judge anyone based on their skin color. A man’s worth and contribution to society is based on the content of character - not what he looks like.
I don't think so.
Your timing is a bit off, IMHO. My understanding is that - Republicans being the party of Lincoln, and Democrats being the party of the KKK - blacks didnt vote Democrat until bought off by FDR. Martin Luther King, Sr. was a Republican.
If facts swayed liberals, we wouldn’t be where we are now.
Thing is, everyone has an ox that gets gored, and it is important to keep in mind that it is better to be right than to be consistent, it is also important to be consistent, because the Left will come at you with every inconsistency, and you need to be prepared.
That’s all.
” Conservatives celebrate achievement. Liberals celebrate, uh, liberalism.”
“Conservatives celebrate achievement. Liberals celebrate,THEMSELVES.
