They going with the Prius?
I remember when all the cop cars were the Plymouth Fury. Egads I must be onld.
There were several different types of vehicles used as police cars across the country, not just the Crown Vic.
Translation: Government regulation killed it.
If Ford had put just a little effort into styling the crown vic (and maybe a 2 door GT model) it would have had an even longer run.
Ford Taurus all when drive...excellent vehicle...but a little cramped on the inside with all the crap in it...
No the only ones driving them are 75+ years old.
For some reason, the Alabama Highway Patrol used AMC cars, (I can’t recall the model) for several years.
I have read several places where it was indicated they would do over 160MPH.
The Florida HP used Thunderbirds with 460s at one time. I have no idea how fast they would go but it must have been scary.
A few months ago there was a minor accident at a crossroads only around 300 yards from me. This was around 10 P.M. For some reason 6 or 7 FHP and Deputy cars stayed there for a couple of hours. The flashing blue lights on the FHP cars were so bright that they hurt my eyes.
If I recall correctly, it was a body-on-ladder-frame design.
I doubt any true unibody can take the punishment they could withstand.
Here in Upstate NY lots of cop cars are SUV’s.
It's got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant, it's got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas. What do you say, is it the new Bluesmobile or what?
It reached the point where nobody BUT police departments bought the Crown Vic. So whenever you saw one parked somewhere you could be 100% certain it was on plainclothes duty.
1974 Dodge Monaco: It’s got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant, it’s got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks. It’s a model made before catalytic converters so it’ll run good on regular gas.
What was real nice about driving a Crown Vic is that when people saw you they would naturally drive better, they’d slow down, get off their phones, and put on their seat belts - all cuz they didn’t know for sure if you were a cop or not.
I’ve been seeing the Ford Police Interceptor around and they’re hot.
I remember visiting Rapid City, South Dakota in the early 1980’s and seeing Volvos (with turbos) as the standard police patrol car.
The worst police cars ever were the Dodge Diplomats. They couldn’t keep up with anything, being so gutless due to smog regulations (and Detroit’s inability to comply with them without emasculating the engines).
