If you do any amount of shopping on Amazon, Prime is the way to go. It really pays for itself multiple times throughout the year and includes Sunday delivery. Prime also gives u free streaming of their video service similar to Netflix. I have both but since Netflix is $7.99/mo if one went with Prime, just the streaming pays for itself in a year. I really have no issue with Amazon “forcing” people to Prime. It’s a great deal and you still have the freedom to choose whether or not to purchase it or whether or not to pay as you go. It’s capitalism at its finest.

I fought off Prime for a year or two, then went with it and write it off as a business expense.

I did too but now I am glad I listened to the Mrs. We use the heck out of it.

I used to be able to find great deals on many products (10% or more savings vs. box retail), but now their prices are the same as the box stores. Now on Amazon you pay retail price, sales tax, and they charge you $99/yr. to do it.

Genius!

That being said, my wife and I use the streaming music service every day and would use the streaming video if our TV supported it. When we buy a new TV w/ Amazon, we’ll cancel Netflix.

Know guy that bought a 65 mustang on the net. They delivered it to his house on a flatbed truck just as advertised.

I have NEVER had a bad experience with Amazon

I just jumped onto Prime and ordered a chicken and an egg. I’ll keep everyone updated.

So, split it among a couple of friends.
One prime membership means that 4 different people can have free shipping. Everybody does not get streaming movies, but all four of you get free shipping.

Love/hate relationship with Amazon.
Love:
1. Good prices are Very helpful to use to compare offerings from other online and brick n mortar retailers.
2. Very much appreciate quick product search and valuable reviews.
3. Usually fast reliable delivery.

Hate:
1. They play bait n switch price games by tracking your ip address, Cart, and search interests, just like online airline booking, ie: once they know you’ve looked, major ally prices go up 5 - 20% moments after first view or putting item in your cart.
2. They lie about early delivery while you browse items.
Minutes later when you decide to place your order, voila’ the delivery date and cost get pushed out and higher.

I Very much dislike their manipulation that traditional retailers couldn’t get away with.

Also, as a seller - they were gouging SOBs with fees, and had Awful customer service for merchants.

Love/hate Amazon...
Anyone else have those experiences or others?

If you do have a bad experience with one of their sellers, they extend your prime membership by at least a month.

I used to be a Prime member but cancelled a few years ago. For some reason starting this past Dec they charged me FIVE TIMES for Prime membership I didn’t order. Each time I called to cancel they would charge it again. Once they charged it again the very next day!

Why haven't shipping rates gone down with the gas price drops? Why did the post office raise rates again this year?

AND WHY DIDN'T BEER GO BACK DOWN!

I have Prime and like it a lot. I am surprised how much I use their free shipping. I have had 3 package show up on Sundays of all days.

I like the streaming service and their original shows are getting better. I enjoyed The Man In The High Castle.

Last I checked the Fire Stick w/ voice remote (which is cool) was on sale for $40. Chromecast doesn’t support prime and amazon and google are at war over it. You can stream Prime over Roku though.

Whoa! I was just on Amazon around 2:30 pm and it was still $35 then. Years ago, their free shipping was pretty good, but in recent years it takes them more than a week to ship. I strongly suspect that they intentionally are slow to ship when free shipping is chosen in order push customers towards Prime service. I once had an order that had items from Amazon and one small item from the marketplace that was shipped from China. The item from China was delivered to my home two days before Amazon shipped the other items.

I use walmart and get free shipping to store for pickup.

I learned. I now check WMT price/availability when working up an order. I was astonished at the breadth of WMT's offerings, way beyond what's in the stores.

Amazon keeps trying to shove all its customers into buying its premium prime shipping service——(bad merchandising — best to cater to the customers’ wishes for the goods and services they really want; the ones who want the prime will purchase it of their own free will). BUT Amazon refuses to sell Prime to its millions of regular customers on tablets and smartphones. You have to drive down to the public library or buy your own desktop computer to purchase prime. Why in the world does Amazon do this? It’s nuts

Prime is a no-brainer for me. Free shipping. Lots of discounted items. The streaming alone pays for itself.

You also get Prime Pantry with “prime”. I save a ton of time and money with it; makes up for the 99 bucks easily.
