Amazon.com Inc. really wants its customers to sign up for a Prime membership.

In case there was any doubt, the Seattle retailer has raised the minimum order size for free shipping for its regular customers by 40% to $49. In October 2013, Amazon boosted the threshold to $35 after holding the line at $25 for at least a decade.

I remember when free shipping was $25. I saw a nice batter operated pepper grinder as a Lighting Deal so I was forced to add 2 more items I had on my wish list to get over $49.

Amazon forces us to buy more and more elsewhere.

I fought off Prime for a year or two, then went with it and write it off as a business expense.

I enjoy the free streaming.

IF they offered a monthly Prime membership, I’d be all over it.

$99 a year upfront is too rich for me.

Yeah, no kidding. They don't get the fact that retail is a cutthroat game. Hello! Sears, Kmart anybody??

I remember the $25 as well. I get ticked at how often something is listed as free shipping, then during checkout gets flagged as not being no shipping to Hawaii or Alaska. They do not even attempt to give you an alternat method of shipping.

$49 will certainly slow down my buying from Amazon.

Why haven’t shipping rates gone down with the gas price drops? Why did the post office raise rates again this year?

As much as I hate to admit it, Amazon Prime has been wonderful for mrs p6 and me. Her new Kentucky Derby hat comes today. We didn’t have to drive all over God’s creation to get it.

Bezos I don’t like your politics but ya done pretty good.

Brick and mortar still is best BTW buy I do find a great selection on Amazon and I dob’t have to drive miles.

Local jobs lost? Probably but UPS, FedEx, USPS and others help offset that.

I used to buy a lot of stuff from amazon for the free shipping. Since they raised the total required for free shipping and started charging me state sales tax, I use walmart and get free shipping to store for pickup.

Why did the post office raise rates again this year?

Because their unfunded pension liabilities are approximately the size of the Venezuelan National Debt.

We buy less from Amazon since they hiked the free shipping minimum from 25 to 35. We will buy even less at 49. Sometimes you just don’t need fifty dollars of stuff. Amazon does a lot of good merchandising things but this one move is The Pits. ( they should instead go for free shipping all the time, they’d sell a whole lot more that way!)

I’m a Prime member and I like it. I use it to pounce on good deals. I shop for what I want and put it in my cart or on hold. I wait for the price to go way down and pounce when the discount is 50% or more. The only down side is some things may take months (or years) to go on sale.

If I really want it, I’ll put it on a Christmas list in hopes someone else will pay for it. Yes I’m cheap (frugal). I do watch old TV shows and movies too. It’s good quality streaming.

“It’s bad, bad, bad to do drunk Prime’ing.”

I once bid on a DeLorean drunk on Ebay. I bid $12K. It went for $15K if memory serves (it had issues ... mostly mechanical which would have been no problem for me).

I’m kind of glad it worked out that way since after reading the description w/o beer goggles on, it would have been more work than I thought and I barely had enough garage space at the time.

It sure was pretty though ... even with the beer goggles off :-).
