Message from "Basil"'s family (Basil has passed 7/22)

Posted on 05/07/2016 12:03:13 PM PDT by pesto

Dear Freepers

Basil, suffered a stroke in early January. It left her paralyzed on her right side and unable to speak. She's got very limited speech and her mental faculties are diminished. She spent many weeks in a therapeutic hospital but when it became apparent that her condition wouldn't improve, our family decided she'd be much happier at home. Hopefully we can minimize her suffering and keep her comfortable. Please pray for her, and Mr. Basil who is an amazing care giver and hasn't left her side.

I first met Basil in the mid 90’s at her home in Austin, when there was an election going on that night and she invited FR to attend. Then I followed her 2nd Amendment Sisters campaign. One cool lady. She will be in my prayers. I enjoyed her story that she got her FR name because she was chopping basil at the time she needed to select a name!

I’m sorry to hear about this. I enjoyed communicating with her when my wife joined the Second Amendment Sisters several years ago. I know she is a true patriot, if anyone can beat this she can. God bless and much love.

I am so sorry to hear this. My mother had the same thing happen. She lived for 5 difficult years in that condition. So hard on dad and everyone. Your family has my prayers.

One of my favorite FReepers. As we age I have problems coming to grips with our frailties. I recall her as a very strong person and hope for the best.

Oh dear! Just now seeing this sad news and am shocked. Pesto, your mom and I really hit it off years ago after one of our numerous FReeps. I still grin when I recall all the bumper stickers she had on the back of that Lexus, LOL! She and I sat outside of a motel, where I don’t recall, and had some good old girl talk one night after a rally. We were always going to get together one day, but time flew by...

Please send her my love and my prayers. I’ve thought of her often over the years. Tell her this other “old biddy” thinks she is one of the Best and the Toughest women I’ve ever met, and if anyone can overcome this she can! God bless you, Mari!

Sorry it’s been awhile since I’ve updated here. My mom’s condition is unchanged and she’s started in home hospice care. I’ll be sure to update if there is anything new to report. Thank you all for your kind words, prayers, and posts. We read them to her and I know she’s glad for your support.

Thanks for the update, pesto.

Tell your Mom, if she has a ringing in her ears, it is just many of her FRiends -—— who are thinking and sending up prayers for her. Please give her a (((((gentle hug))))) from me.

Prayers up for Basil and all of her family, including you, pesto.

I recently came across an article I found interesting and relevant. It may be something that you could discuss with Basil's doctors. Perhaps a trial program is available. Here's a link to the article:

Major breakthrough as doctors REVERSE symptoms of a stroke: Patients to walk, talk and live a normal life after stem cell treatment - up to 3 YEARS later

I continue to pray for Basil's full recovery.

My mother, Pesto, died at home earlier today. She has no geographical boundaries, she’s our angel. We were all there with her, praying and listening to her favorite hymns. She had been in so much pain, and I’m grateful that’s she is in a better place and at peace. Thank you all for your friendship, fellowship and prayers.
