Hillary Clinton’s running mate Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) shrugged off the reality of sanctuary cities in an interview with CNN’s “New Day” on Thursday, calling them a “phantom.”
“When Donald Trump kind of goes after these phantom sanctuary cities and talks about how bad they are, basically what he’s going after is police chiefs. And I trust police chiefs, in terms of knowing what should be done to keep their communities safer — and police departments and mayors a lot more than I trust Donald Trump.” […]

I guess Kaine doesn’t get out much.
The term generally applies to cities that do not allow municipal funds or resources to be used to enforce federal immigration laws, usually by not allowing police or municipal employees to inquire about an individual's immigration status. The designation has no legal meaning.
There are dozens of US cities that willfully ignore federal immigration laws. It's a known fact. But, since "the designation has no legal meaning" I guess cities like Los Angeles are mere "phantoms".
He’s obviously never bothered to talk to anyone like Kate Steinle’s family, who were victimized in one of these “phantom” cities.

Let’s see Provo, UT, for example, announce that they are a “sanctuary city” as regards 2A — no prosecution of any federal laws regarding construction, ownership, or use of machine guns, and active antagonism of any federal officials or agencies who would want to enforce those laws.
I guess he thinks that they were phantom illegals that killed all those innocent people.
If he knew that the worst crime committed against a US citizen would be done to him too he would crap his pants.
I should add—most big city police chiefs are political appointees (hacks) and paid media flacks.
If Kaine wants to know what is really going on in sanctuary cities he should:
—Talk to real cops on the beat
—Have his staff look at real crime statistics in the sanctuary cities (which are available on-line for most large cities these days).

I was able to use this at work when someone tried to argue a specific DC neighborhood was low crime—they were blowing smoke and this web site gave me the data I needed.

Trying to hide behind “police chiefs” when what we are talking about are the sleazy administrations, yes including liberal tool police chiefs, in the major DemocRAT strongholds. Ofc they care more about pleasing their ‘Rat masters (without whom they can never be hired or retained) than about the safety of their citizens.
Never confuse the vast majority of LEOs with the scum of DemocRAT urban administration, the latter of which has gotten us to the sorry state we are in today.

Sanctuary Cities are 100% Democrat to my knowledge. Kaine owns them.
Kaine’s a liar: the police chiefs don’t decide to do this on their own: they are employees who are directed by the elected governing City Councils via official resolutions or ordinances of said “phantom” sanctuary cities.
Seems to be trying to play glittering generality games here.
