Trump Picks Elaine Chao As Transportation Secretary
Zero Hedge ^ | 11/29/2016

Posted on 11/29/2016 11:02:37 AM PST by SeekAndFind

In the first of what Mike Pence called "several very important announcements," Politico reports that former Labor Secretary Elaine Chao is set to be announced later Tuesday as President-elect Donald Trump’s choice to lead the Department of Transportation.

The other contender for the position was former Democratic U.S. Representative from Tennessee Harold Ford.

As Politico adds:

Chao, who ran the Labor Department under President George W. Bush, met with the incoming president at Trump Tower last week and discussed labor and transportation policy, Trump’s transition team said then.

The formal announcement is expected at 1 p.m., one source said.

The wife of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), Chao is the first Asian-American woman to hold a Cabinet-level position. She also served as deputy secretary of transportation under President George H.W. Bush. Chao was also a member of Trump’s Asian Pacific American Advisory Council during the campaign.

Chao is a brilliant appointment that joins the Senate Majority Leader to President Trump’s hip right from the gitgo, and nearly guarantees that Mitch delivers the entire GOP Senate to Trump on nearly every issue for four years.

Not to mention, the woman has excellent experience and credentials, and clearly has amazing political instincts and capabilities since she’s pretty much the power that’s pushed the Mitch throne into the forefront since she married him in 1993.

Also, do keep in mind that Cabinet heads exist SOLELY to carry out a President’s orders. Period. They’re like VPs in a corporation who exist solely to implement the CEO’s policy and philosophy. Their jobs are NOT to set policy and philosophy, but to IMPLEMENT policy and philosophy. They all know that when they’re appointed.

Good points all, plus, what SubMareener said.

Bitch to your hearts content.

The man knows what he's doing, and he's got a plan for getting it done. He's engaged, he's got great instincts and knows how to hire to get things done.

Him, I trust to do the right thing to get our agenda implemented as far as he can. You.................

We shall see how that plays out.

It may have been a savvy move, for the reason you mention, but I’m not convinced Mitch plays along.

I was not a big fan of hers from the Bush administration.

As I said, we’ll see.

Some of the appointments won’t last long IMO.

Trump doesn’t dilly dally like these folks are used to seeing. Some of them won’t be up to moving at light speed.

I happen to know a few of those people and one name in particular really stood out for me - Fran Kennedy Townsend, who is being considered for the post of DHS Secretary. She is the female version of an “empty suit”.

She came to the White House after her EEO appointment as the Coast Guard’s Assistant Commandant for Intelligence, with no background in intelligence whatsoever. She was a friggin’ attorney! Although she’s glib and nice to look at, what she knows about terrorism wouldn’t fill a matchbook cover.

Indeed. So, given that President Trump won’t suffer fools lightly (or longly either), let us hope that his judge of character is as good as it’s reputed to be, so he can avoid having to repair early mistakes later.

She’ll make good fodder with the late-night talk shows.

“So Trump selected a Chinese woman, showing that he is not racist or sexist. But - it’s for Transportation Secretary.”

I wonder if all the folks at DU are getting pissed off yet? “Sure he hired her - as a secretary! What a sexist role - fetching coffee, filing paperwork....”

Show one place where I sang her praises.

Just one.

You're never going to stop being a lying moron are you?

When you came back, I decided to give you a chance to show you're not really insane, and here you are proving my original thesis.......

Total BS.

During Chao’s first four years as Secretary of Labor, OSHA did not promulgate a single significant health standard.[24]

I work in Logistics, DOT has been out of control under O. Sound like Chao is just want we need at DOT.

So how about you two base your thinking going forward on facts rather then continue to cling to hurt feelings left over from Cruz losing the Primaries?
