Cruz argued that in 70 percent of counties in America, consumers have a choice of one or two health insurance plans on the Obamacare exchanges.

How will that change under Trumpcare?

Well, as I understand it, one of the first changes will be that people can buy health insurance from anybody in the country, across both county and state lines.

Can’t do that now.

And will they require the health insurance companies to sell it?

Seventy percent of the counties in this country have one or two healthcare insurance providers because they are rural. Small populations, limited number of healthcare providers, limited incomes. Why would more insurance companies want to get into that situation, fight for a limited number of customers, go through the time and expense of establishing a network of providers, all for limited potential for business? They have to make money to make it worth while. If the expenses don't exceed costs by an acceptable amount then there is no reason for the company to get into that market.

Well don’t give up.

I can’t disagree with anything you have said.
Cruz can be and important voice going forward.

The other change is that the standard benefits package would not be REQUIRED to include substance abuse, mental health, maternity, etc., benefits. We have this enormous policy of benefits that Obamacare mandates, but for which our family has no use.

Me too.

I grew up in Washington, DC, in a neighborhood close to the Russian embassy. This story is from the 70s.

The ladies connected with the embassy were not allowed to venture outside the compound except in vans, and they were “minded” when they were out. A friend of ours told us her Russian friend described the first time a new “Embassy wife” was allowed to go to the grocery store in the group van. When she saw the range of choices available to her at the Safeway, she burst into tears in the grocery store.

The funny thing is that the Safeway near the Russian compound, in Georgetown, was crowded for space, and the DC residents called it the “Socialist Safeway” for the lack of multiple brands that larger grocers could carry.

You don't think healthcare coverage for maternity isn't a good thing?

If it is really insurance, you would be able to select the benefits you need when you agree to buy the package.

You don’t have to pay for the insurance of my silver collection, now do you?

My insurance covers prostate issues and Viagra. Things are tough all over.

Our system is screwed up and needs a lot of reform.

Oh, you must be on Medicare.

Nope. I get my healthcare insurance through work. And each year when I sign up again I am never given a choice between a men's plan or a woman's plan.
