Stunning Success! Vitamin C Saves People Dying of Sepsis
CBN News ^ | April 6, 2017 | Lorie Johnson

It seems too good to be true. A simple and inexpensive treatment for one of the most dreadful conditions around: sepsis.

Also known as blood poisoning, sepsis strikes one million Americans every year, killing one-fourth of them.

Dr. Paul Marik, chief of pulmonary and critical care at Eastern Virginia Medical School, came up with the idea on little more than a whim.

His patient, 48-year-old Valerie Hobbs, was succumbing to sepsis and he had run out of options to save her. It was a desperation shot in the dark: Vitamin C. It worked. Beautifully. Again and again.

Valerie spent a lifetime crocheting blankets for people in her church and feeding the homeless. But then she came down with sepsis. And when everyone thought it would take her life, she was brought back from the brink of death.

"I feel blessed," she said, "I don't say lucky. I tell people, 'I'm not lucky because I didn't win the lottery.' I'm blessed. Because God could have took me. He got me here for a reason. To keep doing the stuff I do."

Valerie was "patient A," the first to receive an experimental treatment for sepsis that worked, and ended up working on many more patients after her.

Sepsis is the body's reaction to an infection. It usually occurs in people who are hospitalized. About a quarter of a million Americans die from sepsis every year, making it the most common cause of death among people who are hospitalized.

Valerie was about to become one of them. Dr. Marik was treating her in the Intensive Care Unit and knew her outlook was grim.

"When you see a patient dying," he said, "You can tell they are dying."

Dr. Marik told Valerie's daughter Anne to prepare for the worst.

"I just broke down and cried," Anne recalled. "I just broke down and cried."

Not long before that, Dr. Marik had been reading about the healing powers of Vitamin C. On a hunch, he gave 1.5 grams of it to Valerie intravenously (because the body can only absorb 500 milligrams when taken orally), along with the steroid hydrocortisone, to reduce inflammation. He would later add Vitamin B to the mixture three patients later.

"I went home not expecting that she would survive," Dr. Marik admitted, "The next morning when I got to work, she was off the blood pressure medication and she was off the ventilator two hours later and actually left the ICU three days later. So it was quite astonishing." Since then, Dr. Marik has treated over 150 septic patients the same way. Time after time they survive.

"This is quite miraculous in that patients who are critically ill, who are at death's door, when we give them this simple combination of medications it turns around their septic process," Dr. Marik said. "And within hours they're significantly better. So in a way, it is a miracle."

News of Dr. Marik's revolutionary Vitamin C cure for sepsis is sweeping the medical community from coast to coast. The reaction? Mixed.

"Some people think this is the coolest thing in the world," Dr. Marik said. "Others think this is complete b.s. and this could not possibly be true."

Dr. Marik says the skeptics are waiting on proof his protocol works in the form of a large, randomized study. However, that may be a very long wait. Most research like that is very expensive and is paid for by drug companies who are testing one of their products that they stand to make a lot of money from, once it's approved. Marik's protocol does not fit that description.

Dr. Marik says when considering his protocol, physicians with patients dying from sepsis need to weigh the pros and cons.

"My argument is, it's so safe, you've got nothing to lose," he said.

Not only is it safe, it's also cheap. This is good news, not only for America, but more so for poor countries. Worldwide, sepsis claims eight million lives every year.

I take 1000 am pm. Changing today cause I am peeing out $$. Just like when I was drinking beer. May 1/2 these 1000 tabs 2 times a day and switch to 200 tabs if available multi times a day. Found this at the Linus P site: Depletion-repletion pharmacokinetic experiments demonstrated that plasma vitamin C concentration is tightly controlled by three primary mechanisms: intestinal absorption, tissue transport, and renal reabsorption (6). In response to increasing oral doses of vitamin C, plasma vitamin C concentration rises steeply at doses between 30 and 100 mg/day and reaches a steady-state concentration (60 to 80 μmol/L) at doses of 200 to 400 mg/day in healthy young adults (7, 8). One hundred percent absorption efficiency is observed when ingesting vitamin C at doses up to 200 mg at a time. Once plasma ascorbic acid levels reach saturation, additional vitamin C is largely excreted in the urine. Notably, intravenous administration of vitamin C bypasses absorptive control in the intestine such that very high concentrations of ascorbic acid can be achieved in the plasma; over time, renal excretion restores vitamin C to baseline plasma levels (9) (see Cancer Treatment). Due to the pharmacokinetics and tight regulation of plasma ascorbic acid, supplementation with vitamin C will have variable effects in vitamin C-replete (plasma levels near saturation) versus sub-optimal (plasma levels <50 μmol/L), marginally deficient (plasma levels <28 μmol/L), or severely deficient (plasma levels <11 μmol/L) individuals. Scientific studies investigating vitamin C efficacy to prevent or treat disease need to assess baseline vitamin C status before embarking on an intervention or statistical analysis (6, 11-13). For a more detailed discussion on the bioavailability of different forms of vitamin C, see the article, The Bioavailability of Different Forms of Vitamin C .

Taking vitamin C before a surgical procedure on any bone will prevent getting a non curable chronic pain condition called CRPS.

“PTSD-related panic attacks can be severe enough to lead to agoraphobia.”

You would think that a fear of spiders would make you not want to stay home. /s

Dam. That makes sense.

When I was recovering from TBI (long recovery), 72 days was the longest I didn’t leave the house.

And I had NO PTSD. Just scared to go out for some reason.

IF this guy had PTSD it must be 100 times harder.

I’ve heard that about cancer and C. I wonder hard hard it would be to find a doctor that would even give you the shots upon request. My dad died from sepsis eleven years ago.

[I read about intravenous vitamin C in YUGE doses drastically beating back cancer]

I’ve also heard about high doses of D3 being administered along with standard chemo. It helps the chemo knock the cancer out much better.

There’s only so much Vitamin C your body can absorb and any excess is excreted via the urinary tract, true. All these studies touting the benefits of very high Vitamin C dosage depend upon either injections or possibly sublingual liquids which would be absorbed under the tongue. “Bioavailability” is an issue with a lot of supplements, tough to get to the therapeutic dose orally.

Vitamin D up to 50,000IU is used for heart patients for a week. Otherwise you can take up to 10,000IU everyday for more energy. A doctor told me I should take 2,000IU and it made a difference real quick. I then started taking more after reading up on it.

Also take Magnesium for the run down feeling. It fixes all kinds of aches and pains. http://www.ancient-minerals.com/magnesium-deficiency/need-more

Not certain what TBI is? I’ve experienced panic attacks, back in 2008. In rapid succession, my dad became seriously ill, my dog got cancer and died, my business went down the tubes due to crash-related customer bankruptcies and then my dad passed away, all in the space of about six months. I tried to force reality to conform to my will, I guess, trying to prevent all that from happening and I couldn’t. I know it’s sort of trendy for people to claim to suffer from panic attacks and I suspect a lot of the people claiming to have them don’t. But, I’d never mock anyone who actually experiences them, it’s awful and I can see why they would get to the point that they couldn’t leave their house. Imagine how you felt when something scared the bejeezus out of you, and then imagine that lasting for hours. You can’t really do anything, it’s debilitating. I got past mine with prayer and over the counter supplements to combat anxiety, but some have a harder time of it.

I am sorry for your loss. I didn’t know it took so many lives.

It should be relatively easy to find a doctor to do that.

I have had intravenous IVs for vitamins when I injured my head.
