‘Sunday Night Football’ Ratings Down Again On Day Of Player Protests

On a day full of criticisms from Donald Trump, political protests, linked arms, players taking a knee or not coming on the field during the National Anthem and renewed pleas for unity from the league NBC and the NFL took a hit last night on Sunday Night Football.

In metered market numbers, the primetime match-up between the 27-10 winning Washington Redskins and the Oakland Raiders snared an 11.6/20.

The worst SNF has performed this season so far, that’s an 8% dip from the early numbers of last week’s Atlanta Falcon’s 34-23 win over the Green Bay Packers. Gaining cheers and boos from fans at FedEx Field in Maryland last night, the third week of SNF for the 2017-2018 season declined 10% from early numbers of the comparable game of last year on September 25, 2016.

Agree, Texas Cowboys fan here. Family not watching tonight. I think Jerry Jones tried to do the right thing but unfortunately for the Cowboys they are part of the NFL. What the NFL allowed to happen on foreign soil is unforgivable.

If you are NFL, ESPN, Fox etc you are freaking out. ad rates will continue drop and these networks are going to lose big money. Look for ESPN to continue their cuts.

I got that info from my our relative. A few minutes later I had cancelled Sling Orange. So ESPN and Disney get zero money from my Sling Blue monthly subscription payment.

Blue does not include every Orange channel by default; there’s no Disney and no ESPN, for starters.

I think the numbers could be weighted towards sport bars.

Was attendance at said sport bars down?
Did homeowners largely tune out?
Would OTA (over the air) viewers be captured?

I’m with you. I increasingly see sports as the real American idol. And in a certain way, I was in bondage to that idol for a long time. I do a better job of keeping them in perspective than I did as a young man, but I know I still waste too much time on them.

Actually, that's perfect -- the Redskins were the previous NFL whipping boy in the media, and they beat the Raiders, from the Black Panthers' homeland. It's probably no accident that the NFL approved the move of the Rams back to a suburb of LA, approved the move out of Oakland (to Las Vegas) of the Raiders, and are considering making the Chargers move back to San Diego. Nyuk nyuk nyuk.

Yeah, but to hear the eneMedia tell it, Trump's gone too far, Trump's unfairly attacked the NFL, Trump's accelerated tensions, if only Trump showed as much concern for Puerto Rico, blahblahblah.
