Chinese authorities are reportedly stepping up their campaign against Muslims in the north-western region of Xinjiang.
According to sources in the region, officials have been warning neighbourhoods and mosques that ethnic minority Muslim families are being forced to hand in religious items including the Koran and prayer mats.
They face severe punishment if they are discovered.

Political correctness is about as destructive to a nation as any plague.
This sort of heavy handed approach won’t work, and will only backfire on the government. I expect reprisals in the form of terrorist attacks, which of course, will lead to severely oppressive measures by the Chinese government.

Cogent and effective? I think not. Those people won't abandon their beliefs because their government confiscates their korans.
You can't deprogram cultists by force. About the only effective thing you can do, is eject them from the country. I wouldn't put it past the Chinese to do just that.
Boy, ain't that the truth.
In my experience, each person has to make that personal journey themselves. I did, and so have lots of other conservatives.
Same holds for those born into Islam.
