Breitbart Goes ‘Old Hickory’ in Tennessee, Gets 2 Establishment Scalps
Breitbart ^ | October 7, 2017 | Michael Patrick Leahy

Posted on 10/08/2017 7:19:07 AM PDT by PJ-Comix

In three short weeks Breitbart News reporting drove two of the three leading establishment Republicans in Tennessee out of the state’s 2018 U.S. Senate race.

First up was incumbent Senator Bob Corker (R-TN), who made a surprise announcement on September 26 he would not run for re-election, one day after a Breitbart News report about his sweetheart deal in an Alabama retail center development in which Alabama taxpayers are set to pay him more than $3 million over 20 years in sales tax incentive rebates.

Though his announcement that he would not seek re-election was couched in terms that claimed it had been made “[a]fter much thought, consideration and family discussion over the past year,” its suddenness–and the fact that Corker felt compelled to offer a lame and incomplete explanation for his investment in a deal that epitomizes the swamp in which the political elite thrive–underscores the potency of the Breitbart News report.

Ah! So now we know the REAL reason Corker split.

Well, if you read POTUS’ tweets from a few minutes ago, he really goes after Corker. I don’t watch the Sunday news programs but I suspect Corker might have been on bad mouthing POTUS and/or his tax plan.

Good riddance to bad trash.

Then came Gov. Bill Haslam, like Corker a “moderate” establishment Republican from East Tennessee.

Corker's dishonest deals in Tennessee are well known, especially with his connections to the refueling stations across the state. He's as bad as the Butchers. Alexander was a decent man until he became a professional politician. He replaced a most dishonest Governor honorably around 1978. The former AG of Tennessee was a good friend and told of all of the corruption of the Blanton administration while we were camping. It made for good conversation and heightened my skepticism of the government.

If “Are=Is”, then the next step is to Californiaize the pronouns by dropping “he” and “she”, going for the universal “it.”

A little history of East Tennessee.

That part of the state had a large Union contingent during the Civil War, even though there were a number of slave owners, they were faithful to Lincoln.

The Governor Bill Haslam departure story is interesting too. Those Pilot and Flying J travel centers you see up and down the interstate are owned by the Haslam family's Pilot (50.1%), FJ Management (11.3%) and Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway (38.6%).

Seems their corporate offices in Knoxville were raided by the FBI and the IRS back in 2013. Pilot Flying J paid restitution to customers and agreed to pay a $92 million penalty.

An additional issue was the fact that Governor Haslam was pushing for a gas tax increase that would have boosted Pilot's revenues.

Governor Bill Haslam's brother Jimmy, the chairman of Pilot Flying J, was also Senator Corker's roommate at the University of Tennessee. All kinds of interesting connections. Needless to say, all these guys are #NeverTrumpers.

Interesting.

Even though it was against their own personal interests, they still did what they though was right.

What changed?

Good on Breitbart for taking out RINO’s, but try taking out a few Dems, too. Please!

A lot of the families living around Knoxville, at the time, were directly related to Revolutionary War vets and were very patriotic. When the rest of Tennessee went for the South, they remained with the North.

Odd in the same manner as in 2004 when BOTH DUMB SOBs candidates were from the same ‘secret fraternity’ with a minimal # of live members.

THAT was definitely a case of voting for who one thought was least objectionable.

I did not ‘like’ Bob Dole as a candidate but at least he had the ‘decency’ to resign the ‘government’ post he was holding once he became the nominee.

I look at it as when the nominee is finally selected he should resign the post he is holding- if only to be able to pursue his aspirations.

Double bonus...when a doofus like Kaine or Kerry etal lose their election, at least ‘we’ are done with them.

ALSO people in Texas or NY or Podunk should NOT have a say in who the ‘dog catcher’ in East Podunk Falls should be.

If the person doesn’t directly ‘serve’ you then he/she/it shouldn’t be taking money from you.

AND if people start donating obviously are not in a position to donate ‘that kind of money’, they should be prosecuted.

Far too many ways to check these days.

No reason a Congressman should get elected on Nov 8 and have to hit the money trail on Nov9 to started funding his NEXT election......
