Lee County NAACP files complaint, alleging minority students more likely to be disciplined

A complaint filed by the Lee County NAACP alleges that minority students in the public school system are more likely to be disciplined and end up in the school-to-prison pipeline than their white peers.

And the local chapter believes the school board missed an opportunity to address this when its seven members stepped away from the NAACP’s plan to tweak its district boundaries, which was proposed in the hopes of getting a minority candidate elected.

The complaint was filed with the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights on Sept. 15, and was amended last week to include more statistics of how white students compare academically and in discipline rates to their Hispanic and black peers.

“The majority of students in Lee County schools are students of color,” explained Shirley Chapman, chairwoman of the Lee NAACP's education committee, in a news statement released Monday. “And, sadly, students of color here are more likely than their white peers to be removed from the classroom, suspended, expelled, referred to law enforcement and forced out of school."

The NAACP should go and tell their “children of color” to behave themselves, and stay out of trouble.

And, of course, it couldn’t possibly be that those Black students disproportionately misbehave in class.

I assume they will have a corresponding misbehavior cohort? And a correlated dad-free household analysis?

Bueller?

And speeders are more likely to be ticketed for speeding.
Except maybe in the case of Paula Poundstone, who told Johnny Carson she thought the police were out to get her.
“How so?” he asked.

“I’m the only person I know of who’s ever been pulled over for attempted speeding.”

Who knew that disciplining those behaving badly is racist?

Since blacks commit crimes at a rate of anywhere from 6 to 17 times what they would be projected based on population alone, is it a big surprise that the thuglets are being disciplined more often before they get into the criminal justice system/

Really?

it couldn’t possibly be that those Black students disproportionately misbehave in class.

Even if they proportionally misbehave in class, they are still the majority and will still be more likely - as a group - to be disciplined.

The SJW/NAACP/Black activist focus on the disciplined kids is bizarre, and self destructive. It shows they are just willing to promote a destructive policy in the interest of their own political standing

I know several high school teachers and have spoken with many more in our own NE “Blue” City, and others.

Its a very typical and tiresome pattern. A class will have 2-3 (usually alpha male, but not always) highly disruptive and disrespectful students. The teacher will spend half or more of class time trying to tame them. The rest of the (black) students will watch/laugh/be distracted. No learning takes place. They will say nothing, out of fear. Expectations are once again lowered to lowest-common-denominator.

“The majority of students in Lee County schools are students of color,”

**************

Are we talking percentages or are we talking raw numbers for the comparison?

Just because they are more likely to act out in an antisocial matter is no reason to discipline them more often.

Come on guys. The nigglybears are just misunderstood 'cause we don't know what it's like to be black.

White privilege can be a curse sometimes.

Not the yutes that believe that robbing people is a viable career choice or that attaining a felony record is good but a diploma is not.

It's those dang Crackers keepi' the bruthas down!

The fact that they are most likely to misbehave, usually without any fear of reprisal, never occurs to these people.

Lets see the numbers on how many of these white kids have 2 parent families that actually give a shit about their children instead of the Average Black or Latino single Mother that sends her children out to sell crack for their lunch money, then pimps her daughter out to her Boyfriends friends.....

Black students are far more likely to live in fatherless households, so this should not be a surprise.

HOWEVER, I would not discount the possibility in individual situations that SOME blacks students get more severe discipline than whites. There is also a “who knows and is connected to whom” that may affect disciplinary actions.

Drawing on decades of real life experience, I think I know why there is a discrepancy between the rates of disciplinary action. I know why, and everyone here knows why too.
