Carly Fiorina slammed the politicization of sexual assault on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace today. The former HP CEO and 2016 GOP presidential primary candidate called for institutional change, criticized both political parties, and even called out the former Fox News CEO Roger Ailes.
When asked why such sexual harassment occurs, Fiorina lamented the fact that in many circles it has been tantamount to an open secret.
In virtually all of these cases, there has been corroboration of the womens' cases. In virtually every case, it's not one woman who comes forward. I think what we all need to think about particularly men need to think about is that people knew. People knew it was going. You cant tell me no one knew it was going on with Roy Moore, or John Conyers, or Al Franken, or Charlie Rose, or Roger Ailes, or Howard Weinstein. (sic) I think the question going forward is, when are we going to stop tolerating this behavior and stop respecting the men who did it?" The long time host of Fox News Sunday asked Fiorina about the Democrats' problems with senior ranking Democrats Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) and Rep. John Conyers (D-MI).
First of all this behavior goes on all the time. In politics, in the work place, in athletics. And when we politicize it its not my team vs. your team. Republicans and Democrats alike are guilty of it," she told Wallace. As for the process of reporting sexual harassment in Congress, Fiorina highlighted the long and tedious process it takes to even accuse a member of Congress of sexual harassment.
"I tell you the most helpful thing would be for Congress to change its own process. If someone wants to come forward and allege harassment or abuse, they must go through a mandatory 30 days of counseling, mandatory mediation, led by a lawyer whose express purpose is to protect the institution, and then maybe if they are lucky, they get a secret settlement paid for by tax payers from the Treasury. That ought to change. That whole process is designed to protect politicians, democrats and Republicans, to protect the institution, and to make it next to impossible, for a woman, or in some cases a young boy page, to come forward. That ought to change, that would actually help. Wallace opened the segment by asking about President Donald Trump's apparent support for Alabama GOP senate candidate Roy Moore, despite the numerous accounts of sexual impropriety charged at the candidate.
Well thats politics isnt it, Chris? This is all about politics. And thats why when politicians talk about (sexual harassment) they dont have a lot of credibility. This has been going on in politics for a very long time. Its a little bit like George Washington warned us 200 years ago, the problem with politics and political parties is they care about winning above all else. Donald Trump cares about a vote in the senate. No more, no less. Sunday morning President Donald J. Trump seemed to confirm Fiorina's speculation that a large amount of his support for Moore is for a vote in the senate. He tweeted "Jones would be a disaster."
Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump The last thing we need in Alabama and the U.S. Senate is a Schumer/Pelosi puppet who is WEAK on Crime, WEAK on the Border, Bad for our Military and our great Vets, Bad for our 2nd Amendment, AND WANTS TO RAISES TAXES TO THE SKY. Jones would be a disaster! 2:52 PM - Nov 26, 2017
Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump I endorsed Luther Strange in the Alabama Primary. He shot way up in the polls but it wasnt enough. Cant let Schumer/Pelosi win this race. Liberal Jones would be BAD! 3:33 PM - Nov 26, 2017
Fiorina also laid in to the fact that she, and every woman she knows, were at one point or another a victim of sexual harassment.
"Of course I was (sexually harassed). Every woman I know was
All women are not victims. But the power of men over women has been with us for a long time and we all know it." The full twelve minute long interview can be seen here.
That face.
...and that 10 deg head tilt.
You have to wonder if Trump’s initial support for Luther Strange had anything to do with prior knowledge of the coming hit on Roy Moore.
A little tin foil there, but who knows.
Who is Carlifornia?
Sounds like a Hollywood stripper.
I do think that sexual harassment is a problem that needs to be addressed among politicians and others. Having said that, one thing I notice is that the politicization of sexual harassment has degenerated into the demonization of men in general.
I watched the women on Foxnews talking about it today. They trashed this NYT White House correspondent for his inartful passes at women. He would get a woman drunk at a bar and then pay his male companions $20 to go home and leave him alone with the woman. Not that I approve of that but I dont consider that harassment or assault. Some women (and men) open themselves up to stuff they regret when they drink too much. He apparently took advantage of it. But that is not illegal as long as the woman is a willing participant.
Keeping it hush hush makes the politicians blackmailable. Need to smoke them out.
The problem with Roy Moore was that they waited until after he was nominated to play their hand. It was pure gamesmanship. Although it would be fair to say that it was not a complete surprise. You could see it coming. The Dems made clear that they were going to pull something like this even before the nomination. They made cleat that they were going to make Roy Moore the issue.
Of course men have been “hitting” on women for centuries. It is why our species is still here. And in my life I have seen the ethics of sexual treatment from both men and women become increasingly verboten. Carly is right that most women have experienced some sort of sexual objectification that was not welcome. The question is did the women complain and did the behavior stop?
I have seen changes such as the following characterization of joke telling such that jokes have to be carefully washed before being told:
It has gone from jokes were OK
To one cannot tell a joke in mixed company to
To today’s rule, one cannot tell a joke period.
You will all know the type of joke I am describing.
I have to agree that the work place (except maybe Capitol Hill) has cleaned up its act considerably under the watchful eyes of the EEOC and the court system where high payments have been collected. Not yet true in politics where the vote and the election are all that count. Carly knows this having been in the workplace and in the political arena.
I believe our society is changing, and in many places has changed but I cannot see going back 38 years and accepting allegations as fact without a due process.
Worse than Gillespie.
I won’t vote for her.
Yep, and the one where Ted punches his wife is pretty funny, too.
What a hypocrite, framing it that Trumps support is all political. Maybe just maybe our President gives a damn about our nation and that Jones freak would be horrible for our country. So thats political in her valid head? And shame on her for rolling on Moore when its so obvious she hasnt done her homework. Shes useless
bump
Hmmm....let’s see.....when can I find 12 minutes to watch this interview? Maybe when they have me laid out on a slab!
Who woke up iCarly?
In what sense is Roy Moore like ANY of the democrats or Hollywood types?
At best, or worst, he did something wrong with 2 females almost 40 years ago and never repeated it. Assuming you believe the accusers, and I don’t.
Compare that to millions in payouts, and a contract with your company making them responsible for paying out sexual harassment/assault claims! Compare that to accusations spanning DECADES. Compare that to being known for decades of exposing yourself nude to women who work for you!
Even if Roy Moore was guilty of something, it would be trivial to the lives of these Democrats! And, from what I can tell, Roy Moore is guilty of “robbing the cradle” - something that makes a lot of sense for a woman who wants a marriage. As my Filipina DIL put it, “By the time a guy is 30, he is ready to settle down and have a family. He’s a better prospective husband than an 18 year old!”
Or as one guy put it to me in the 80s, when I was seriously considering moving to a small town, “Plan on dating high school girls. By 20, the good ones have married or moved....” And yes, he had grown up in that town. And he was right.
LOL!
