For those who don’t know, all the poor districts in NJ get more money per student than even the richest suburbs. Poor districts in NJ get college tuition type money for each student and it has changed nothing. Test score are as bad as they ever were.
Also, suburban voters here support local public schools, not vouchers or charter schools. We have small districts that are under local control. Potential GOP voters here overwhelmingly don’t want to change anything about the suburban schools, which have the highest test scores in the nation. What they want to stop wasting money on Newark and other low performing districts. Part of why Christie failed is he never attacked on school funding because he was afraid to be called racist for taking money away from the cities and representing the interests of his suburban voters.
In the long run, support for local suburban towns’ interests as communities is the big issue conservatives can use to make a come back in the NYC area and the East Coast.

Although I have great respect for people like Justice Thomas, the overall outlook for American blacks is bad and not likely to get any better. And they mostly have themselves and the Democrat party to blame.
If that makes me a racist, I don’t care.
I would never send my kids to a predominately black school. I worked in one and saw what those white kids went through.
New Jersey already tried forced integration in Englewood, and it resulted in non-black parents running to private schools. It utterly failed, but let the state push the education costs of mainly black Englewood students onto the taxpayers of Englewood Cliffs.

I wouldn’t quite say blacks “self-segregated”; they ended up in segregated schools because the towns themselves would end up mainly black. Busing doesn’t work (just damages a neighboring town); this will simply drive more “white flight” from NJ.
Less and less of the schoolchildren in NJ are “white”; these schemes will just end up with black students being bused to suburbs while Hispanic and Asian students pass them going the other way. NJ is liberal on all things but race; no white parents are having their children bused into a black urban school.

I will wager you that three years from now the New Jersey school system will be in crisis. And white flight from New Jersey will be greater than it is today.
Joe Clark tried to fix it in Patterson and basically got the boot.
When you have 4 generations of poverty living in the same household and no one is over 50, and the only thing you have known your entire life is the state provides everything for you then this is what you are stuck with.
Professional Negroes like Sharpton and Jackson know that as long as there is no father figure in the house to stabilize the family, the “turn 14 and have children” attitude will guarantee Democrat voters for generations.
If we really want to change this, one of the first things to do is get a better class of blacks in congress. Maxine Waters should never be the answer to “how to bring the American black living in poverty out of poverty?”
It’s sad commentary, especially since asking the question automatically labels you as racist. The other sad commentary is more whites believe in what Dr. King said than blacks.
Forced integration makes no sense. So you have a failing school and you’re going to take kids from good schools and put them into those failing schools? I mean, I think they would have to swap students or the other school would become overpopulated. The emphasis should be on fixing the failing schools. But liberals know exactly why they are failing, it is by design. They don’t want them fixed.

If the segregation was caused by white flight from blacks moving in, I don’t see how blacks deliberately brought about the segregation. Sure, their arrival was the impetus - but it certainly wasn’t the outcome they sought.
I’m not saying there weren’t problems; my point is that today’s segregation issue in NJ is caused by the fact that school districts are nearly 100% black because the whole town is nearly 100% black.
