Unfortunately, none of these would have applied to Nikolas Cruz who despite 39 police contacts at his home and threats made on-line under his real name that he was going to shoot up a school, managed to avoid ever receiving any police record whatsoever.
Which is frustrating because these kids have a right to be pissed off! They raised every flag they could about psycho Nikolas Cruz and nobody would listen. They were failed at every level.

Care must be taken not to conflate the blanket term “mental illness” with raw evil.
What is curious about this is the 39 visits by the cops to the residence. Every single one of those should have had a police report that went into the system and discussed the kid’s issues.
I would say this. In the German system where you have to pass the doctor’s review/drugs used review...he wouldn’t have gotten a license. On the 39 visits by the cops? The reports would have been noted in the license process, and he wouldn’t have gotten the German weapon license because of the threats conveyed to his mother.
The problem here is if you take mass shooters and the last 300 events....I think virtually all of them passed the background checks. So it makes wonder why even bother with the checks...they accomplish little to nothing.
So...let me get this straight. A spoiled, deviant sociopath shoots up a school, and the appropriate response is a group indulgence in spoiled, deviant sociopathic behavior.
If gun control works so well then they should all move to those glorious gun-free cities of Chicago, Baltimore, Oakland because it works so well there.
