Question: How does one make anonymous political contributions?
9/29/2018

In this age of dirty politics, where citizens are attacked personally because of their personal beliefs, I am wondering if there are ways to donate - to candidates or to party committees - anonymously?

I have heard that if you donate less than $200, candidates do not have to report it. Is this true?

Are there other ways, like donating to PACs or GoFundMe campaigns.

People used to buy cash cards and send them in.

Create a series of shell companies that own one another with each incorporated in a different state. Make contributions from the last one on the list, with your name only associated with the corporation at the other end.

If the contributions aren't that large, then no one will take the time to follow the chain back to you.

It may cost some money to set up the chain, but you can use it over and over again.

Set up a fake tax free scam like the Clinton Foundation.

Soros has several to get around campaign laws he promoted : like the Tides Foundation.

Only Democrats are allowed to make anonymous political contributions.

I suppose you can send cash instead of the cash cards? Are candidates allowed to use those kinds of donations?

EVERY contribution has to be reported. Even for small local campaigns. I once served as treasurer for a state office campaign and every penny given or in-kind contribution had to be accounted for.

Remember that episode of MASH that had Radar trying to ship an entire Army Jeep piece by piece to his folks back home? Without reporting every contribution it would be like that. Tiny amounts of cash accumulating and becoming something much bigger and off the record.

I don’t know about the legal aspects of whether they can accept anonymous donations, it may not be legal.

But a practical method would be to get a cashier’s check at your bank, then you can fill it in the “to” section, but not who it is from and mail it.

You con contribute thousands, legally, and get BIG bang for your “bucks” at the same time: certain in-kind donations are not reported, and are VERY helpful to your candidates of choice.

Simply, volunteer.

Your canvassing, sign delivering, calling, door-knocking, advising, campaign-managering is worth figurative gold to a campaign.

Ask Obama. He had thousands of untraceable gift cards donated to his campaign.

I can give to a Political Action Committee, and the PAC can contribute as much as they want. I can give to the Democrat National Party with a request that they give it to a certain campaign. Thank you McCain/Feingold. As an individual, I can only give so much to a campaign directly.

That’s because you can’t be trusted to donate to the correct people.

Mail in pre-paid visas and use a fake name out of the telephone book on each one.

I’m curious as to what sort of attacks you’re worried about.

Are you worried that your job could be threatened because your name might show up on a list of Republican donors?

Are you concerned about being socially ostracized because of your political affiliation?

Just curious as to what would prompt you to seek such anonymity.

Set up a non-profit with a cool sounding name like “The Clinton Foundation”, seek donations and hire friends and relatives, redistribute/laundery money through salaries (just kidding of course).
