Shifting North Magnetic Pole Forces Unprecedented Navigation Fix
gCaptain ^ | January 11, 2019 | Alister Doyle

Rapid shifts in the Earth’s north magnetic pole are forcing researchers to make an unprecedented early update to a model that helps navigation by ships, planes and submarines in the Arctic, scientists said.

There has got to be a way to make some big bucks out of this whole flipping thing.

The problem with it flipping is it will leave us unprotected from the sun’s electromagnetic waves.

It is the massive ball of molten magnetic material moving beneath the crust of the earth that is causing the shift.

Actually the core is just an element of the magnetic field. The change in the field is partly due to the reduction in the Sun's output.

It may just eventually flip.

The Sun is undergoing a pole reversal right now. It may cause the Earth's magnetic field to flip, as you say. Maybe not all the way, but it may slip halfway, then flip back. Who knows?

All evidence suggests we are entering a new 'minimum' and that it will get colder on average globally.

“well it IS moving toward Russia...”

that just proves collusion beyond any scientific doubt!

Actually you are correct. In past magnetic flips the magnetic poles positions become very unstable before the flip. The next 100 years may be interesting, but not in a good way. There is a brief period of no magnetic shield from the solar wind and cosmic rays. Bad things happen then as it did in the past. This is just normal and they can not blame global warming for this.

“As of 2017, the pole is projected to have moved beyond the Canadian Arctic territorial claim to 86.5°N 172.6°W.”

It is now in the possession of Russia. Absolute proof of Trumps Collusion. I am puzzled on how Trump changed the mantel of the earth but he sure as hell did it. /sarcasm

The North Magnetic Pole moves over time due to magnetic changes in the Earth’s core.

Although that is what science tells us, there is no evidence to support it.

What changes the magnetic field, and thus the location of magnetic north, is the energy of the Sun and the influence of the Sun's magnetic field. The energy of the Sun and the Sun's magnetic field in conjunction with the Earth's iron core produces the Earth's magnetic field. Based on what science tells us, the core is either liquid or solid. If solid, how does it 'change' to cause the magnetic field to move ? If liquid, same question.

I’m guessing that it is the satellites that spit out the GPS data that rely on a reasonable reference to True North. BUT - they can only measure to magnetic north, and then use a fudge factor to get true north.

It is the poor forecast model of the fudge factor. I have no idea how big of a deal it is. The first part of the article talks about ships and planes near the poles - so perhaps it is more critical there than farther away from the poles.

If you are at the pole you are near the “target”. With a gun - missing the bullseye by 6 inches while standing 7 feet away is a big miss. But standing far away from the target (or in Florida and referencing to the north pole) - just getting the bullet on the paper from 1,000 yards is a good shot.

That's true. It has already caused a weakening of the 'shield'. Maybe that is why half the people on the planet are insane.

Also, there seem to be an enormous amount of ancient underground cities or complexes dated back to the last pole shift. Maybe people had to live underground to escape the radiation from the Sun.

Should improve it, what with all that extra motion and all.

I’ve read that we’re entering a mini ice age. I suppose they’ll be calling it “Global cooling”.

“How/Why does the GPS in your smartphone rely on where the model says magnetic north is? Hopefully they are keeping good track of where the dragons be.”

They work off satellites in orbit. They give you information that is translated into current geomagnetic positions. Actually it would be better if they made it true north positions but this is trivial. Your GPS will work just fine.

Our reliance on geomagnetic positions is really an anachronism dating back to the sailing days that totally relied on magnetic north. GPS satellites will tell you exactly where you are with precision. I have a gps in my glider that I down loaded for free on my tablet. It tells me where to go based on the current geomagnetic north. It would be easy to change all of this based on polar north. As said, it is an anachronism that will be gone in the future. However, I will not throw my magnetic compass away!
