I agree, use these funds to help finish the wall and access other funds as the project continues.

Lifson notes:

Democrats will attempt the usual lawfare approach to tie up this presidential initiative in court. I hope a brilliant suggestion I saw yesterday, but cannot remember the source of, is followed. Let a friendly governor of a state in the Fifth Circuit (perhaps Texas) mount a quick lawsuit so the most conservative appeals court in the nation will affirm the president’s right to spend the money.

Am I the only person who remembers that President Obama came up with $1.7 billion to send to the mullahs of Iran as part of his JCPOA without a congressional appropriation? Presidents have amazing executive discretion to spend money without specific authorization from Congress. I don’t recall Chuck and Nancy complaining about that spending without an appropriation.

does this deal not include a reduction in beds for housing these law breakers?

if it does include it. no deal.

Trump would have to kick the overflow out into our streets

It is more than just money. It establishes that Congress agrees the wall is necessary. It will make court challenges tougher.

In addition to legal table setting it establish a clear political wall between two parties. The GOP is now forced into choosing between the wall and big business.

With the cancelation of the high speed railway between L.A. and SF; California owes $3.5B they refuse to return to all of us federal taxpayers. Newsome say he won’t return it to President Trump like it’s Trump’s money or something.

The feds should restrict all funding to CA until it has recouped all $3.5B CA owes us.

This ain’t railroad science folks.

Demonstrate that it works, and it will, and then GET MORE (MOAR?) money.

He will have even more of a position to ‘beat’ the dems with.

If Trump signs the bad border funding deal into law, there will be something in the bill that negates his ability to use the present legal powers he now has to build the wall or barrier. Even if there isn’t such explicit language in the new bill, a dishonest liberal judge will rule that because the new bill addresses the border issue, and it is the latest expression by Congress regarding the border, it carves out the border issue from the present laws that allow Trump to take action to protect the country. Trump should not sign the bill.

PDJT gets things done. He’s cobbled together BIG MONEY for other construction projects; I trust that he’ll do the same with our much-needed wall.

Best. Election. Ever. EVER! MAGA! :)

PDJT ought to take the present money and keep on quietly slicing the salami to get the rest.

If it's lengthy, you know damn well they've got something hidden in there that limits him to building ONLY the portion of the wall this specific bill funds and no other portions of the wall he may find money for.

Forget it, let the government shutdown.

If the Republicans throw in with the democrats and override a veto then Trump didn't cave and the pussies in the Senate did. It makes him that much better off going into 2020.

This is exactly what I said to Mr. GG2 yesterday. Take what you can get from Congress and get the rest from unallocated funds.

Get the Wall built any way you can.

It will immediately provide benefits. And if the Democrats want to continue to oppose something which is providing obvious benefits, that’s on them.

If trump takes the money, he can continue to campaign for more. (George Washington didn’t win it all at once either.) Most people really want a wall, but not everyone is willing to have air travel, the coast guard, etc., held hostage.

If the compromise $1.38 billion will only build 55 miles of border wall, then Trump’s 5.7 billion would only build about 220 miles of wall. STILL NOT ENOUGH!

So, take the MONEY and RUN! Get the rest by whatever means you must have already identified.

No gubmit shutdown, Congress on record “approving” the building of a wall, they just gave Trump the ammo to defeat frivolous lawsuits against alternative funding.

WINNING!

If it’s NOT a SIMPLE CLEAN SHORT bill, not some 1,000 page monstrosity they hid stuff in. It might be doable.

But Dems never do Clean/Simple/Short Bills, so they can HIDE CRAP IN THEM.

Old Beto had a Fence around his rally, people waving Mexican Flags, Hanging President Trump in Effigy.

They have NO INTENTIONS OF BEING HALF WAY FAIR.

BUILD THE WALL, tell the Dems to go to Hades and shut down Government again. Didn’t notice the last one any more than I noticed Obama’s several.
