The Pew Research Center has produced a projected profile of what the American electorate will look like ethnically in the 2020 elections.
The portrait shows a continued trend of America becoming an increasingly nonwhite nation and electorate.
Pew projects that 66.7 percent of eligible voters in 2020 will be white. In the presidential election in 2016, 71 percent of voters were white.
In 2000, 76.4 percent of eligible voters were white, 10 points more than Pew projects for 2020. When President Reagan was elected in 1980, 88 percent of the electorate was white.
A number of factors are driving the ethnic changes of the country. One, of course, is the large Hispanic immigration of recent years.
But another key factor is fertility rates. Whites are having fewer children than blacks and Hispanics.
The political implications of these changes are profound.
Nonwhite Americans vote disproportionately for Democrats. So, if voting patterns of nonwhite Americans stay consistent, every year it will become more difficult to elect Republicans, as ethnic and racial minorities become an increasingly larger percentage of the electorate.
In 2016, Donald Trump won 58 percent of the white vote. However, he lost every other ethnicity by large margins.
He won 8 percent of blacks, 29 percent of Hispanics and 29 percent of Asians.
Not surprisingly, this picture translates into the makeup of today's 116th Congress.
Racial and ethnic minorities now hold 116 seats in the current Congress, compared with the 63 seats they held in the 107th Congress in 2001.

The fact that that only 8 percent of blacks voted Republican in the last presidential election while 22 percent identify as conservative advertises an underlying opportunity for change among blacks.
This in contrast to Hispanics, 29 percent of whom identified as conservative in the Gallup poll, and indeed, 29 percent of Hispanics voted Republican in the last presidential election.
A sluggish, slow-growing economy is the last thing that low-income Americans need. But this is exactly what they will get when things get larded down with the big-government spending and wealth redistribution programs that Democrats want.
Low-income Americans need jobs and opportunity, like we're seeing now, as the economy has shifted gears over the last two years as a result of tax cuts and deregulation.
Whether it's an open dynamic economy, or a flexible education system where parents have control over their child's education, Republicans need to get aggressive in selling their program in minority communities.
There's plenty of opportunity to change mindsets for the better.
“Can Republicans Get Elected in Nonwhite America?”
No.
White democrats won’t get elected in a Nonwhite America.
Rush Limbaugh did an excellent segment on this during his show yesterday.
Minorities and Millenials have completely consumed the Kool-Aid that says Republicans are EEEEEEEEVIL and RAAAAAACIST and mean-spirited. If a way isn’t found to break through that, and soon, the country is SCROOOOOOOOD.
It is much easier to eliminate attitudinal black people than to eliminate the supremely white majority
Self-respecting minorities vote Republican.
I believe that IF “Republicants” would actually go back to being REPUBLICANS and supporting our Constitution and our REPUBLIC, they might start winning again. As things currently stand, we are screwed.
We need fewer minorities, and that’s the plain fact of the matter. Minorities vote for Democrats so overwhelmingly that if this country becomes any less white you can kiss what you know as the USA goodbye.
That stat of the white population losing 4% of the vote share in 4 years should alarm the hell out of everyone.
Getting rid of foreign populations who do not share our values is a survival imperative for the USA.
Who cares.
Republicans do nothing and are useless.
No.
That’s why Republicans are stupid and short-sighted for going along with turning America non-white, all for some cheap labour and more bucks for business owners.
We need to quit paying women to have children. If you receive assistance no more money for extra children after you sign up.
Under the current circumstance there is no reason for anyone on assistance to vote Republican. All people vote their pocketbooks.
The WORLD will not be happy until the white race is extinguished.
Believe it.
As minorities become closer to the majority you may see more white demonrats switch parties.
As the millienials age, and they are, once having left college and go into the “real world”,the later has a way of bitting them in the rearend.
Second it.
Yup. Republicans are doomed without the CONSERVATIVE white vote. They are REALLY doomed if they lose the CHRISTIAN vote. That is coming in the near future. The more the Latin’s move up from the south, the more the RINOs are going to lose.
There are FEW of those.
White people better go tribal and fast.
The unpunished illegal vote will do in the Republicans from here on out. The democrats are now trying to pass a Bill that would legalize all their cheating in the past few elections. Unless the Republicans can uncover and publicize the cheating, and then mete out PUNISHMENT FOR BREAKING THE LAW, the Republican Party will become extinct.
All ethnic groups whose members want to survive will vote for their own in-group. Religious affiliations are critical too.
Blacks and Hispanics understand this. So do Muslims and some Jews.
Everybody else ("White people") will ignore this at their own peril.
No - Unless and until people stop thinking in group-think and start working to their own, personal benefit.
