How Trump's 2020 reelection strategy could work -- but probably won't (CNN hallucinations)

Washington (CNN)First things first: The theme song of the week is the theme from The Larry Sanders Show.

Poll of the week: A new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll finds that President Donald Trump's approval rating among voters nationwide is 45%. His disapproval rating is 52%. This makes for a net approval (approval - disapproval) of -7 points.

The average poll has Trump's net approval among voters at -9 points.

What's the point: Trump's 2020 strategy seemed to be in full swing this past week. He looks to be doubling down on a campaign of hardline immigration policies and racial resentment. Trump lashed out in a racist Twitter tirade, telling four " 'Progressive' Democrat Congresswomen [to...] go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came."

The Trump strategy is pretty simple: 1. Drive up the unfavorable ratings of his Democratic rival as he did in 2016 in order to compensate for his own low ratings. 2. Bank on an electoral college/popular vote split as he did in 2016. 3. Use a campaign of racial resentment to drive up turnout even more among groups favorable toward the President.

Remember, Trump lost the popular vote in 2016. He won because he flipped a congressional district in Maine (good for one electoral vote) and the states of Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin from blue in 2012 to red in 2016. If the 2020 Democratic presidential candidate wins all the states Hillary Clinton won, then she or he only needs to win the closest of those three Trump flipped (Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin). It seems simple enough.

In an honest election, it will be a Trump blow-out. “Honest” being the operative word.

Wow!, Stop hitting the pipe before work!!

personally I don’t believe any of the current candidates will be the demonrat nominee, neither has a prayer in the General, they will bring someone else in pretty soon to try and save the party.

The democrats er communists have more candidates that object on the K-Mart Blue light special table. And all are broken. I am assuming the Harris is the nominee. She is a woman I think, a mouthy socialist, has a dirty sex life mainly Willie Brown and can talk on her feet. I question that I pose is that can her story carry into other states. The opposite is that Trump’s story can bleed into other states more quickly that hers. Look it is tough running against an incumbent and whoever it is , trouble in beating Trump.

It is funny that CNN is talking about Trump’s reelection chances given that CNN deemed that he had no chance to win the first time.

Republicans usually do not campaign in California (55 electoral votes), Illinois (20 electoral votes), or New York State (29 electoral votes) because they could never win a majority of votes in any of those states.

But now that those states, and others lefty states have passed laws which assign their electoral votes to whomever wins the national popular vote, lefties have now put those states' electoral votes in play for Republicans, even if they don't stand a chance of winning those states outright.

So theoretically, Republicans now have a reason to campaign in those lefty states - to run up their national popular vote numbers. And Republican voters in those states now have a reason to actually vote - their vote now counts toward a Republican winning all of the electoral votes from California, Illinois, New York, and others who have signed on.

Imagine the lefty heads exploding if Trump were to seriously campaign in those three states, lose all three of those states, and yet still increase Republican turnout in those states enough to put him over the top in the national vote!

However, for this to work, lefties would have to stick to their convictions, which we know they won't. They'll find some judge in Hawaii to overturn their National Popular Vote compact, it'll go all the way to the Supreme Court, and Roberts will vote with the lefties on the SC to overturn the compact.

This compact is perhaps the stupidest thing lefties have done in a long time. They've taken states that are almost impossible to win by a Republican, and now made it possible for a Republican to lose those states, yet win their electoral votes. On the other hand, it now gives lefties an extra incentive to commit vote fraud. No longer is a fraudulent vote cast in California only counted in California. Now, that one fraudulent vote counts towards the electoral votes in many lefty states that are in this compact.

Oops!

“Proposed in the form of an interstate compact, the agreement would go into effect among the participating states in the compact only after they collectively represent an absolute majority of votes (currently at least 270) in the Electoral College.”

The currently only have enough states to constitute 196 electoral votes.

“To give himself a shot, Trump would be wise to try to make the Democratic nominee a liberal out-of-touch candidate.”

If that’s all it takes, then the dems are without hope.

the pact isn’t operative: the pact becomes operative only when states representing a majority of the electoral votes sign up ...

““To give himself a shot, Trump would be wise to try to make the Democratic nominee a liberal out-of-touch candidate.””

ROTFLOL!

Trump doesn’t have to “make” them do that: they’re hell-bent on doing that anyway, all by themselves ...

their only real hope was Bidn, but Bidn is nearly senile and pretty much self-destructs with gibberish statements whenever presented the chance ... not to mention, that for unknown reasons, Bidn has been moving to the extreme left on position after position, thereby no longer representing even an approximation of sanity amongst the Dems ...
