MD To Eliminate Almost 85% Of Polling Locations, But Officials Say They Aren’t Worried

Maryland is set to transition from approximately 1800 polling places to 282 voting centers for November’s election in an effort to prevent the spread of COVID among voters, according to a plan proposed by the state’s Board of Elections and authorized by Gov. Larry Hogan. Unlike polling places, voting centers are large, open spaces like gymnasiums or convention centers, Nikki Charlson, the deputy administrator for Maryland’s Board of Elections, told the Daily Caller News Foundation. Though almost 85% of the state’s usual polling places will be closed, election officials think that voting centers’ ability to hold more in-person voters, voting absentee and voting early will ultimately prevent any voters from being disenfranchised, Charlson said.

In addition to the voting centers’ ability to better handle influxes of in-person voters, those registered are eligible to vote in any center in their home county, according to the plan. The transition from thousands of polling places to hundreds of voting centers came largely due to the state’s shortage of poll workers, Charlson said.

The voting centers are most concentrated in areas with the highest populations like Baltimore and Prince George’s County. In the latter, which shares Washington, D.C.’s eastern border, 11 centers will be open for early voting and 40 centers open on Election Day, Charlson said.

Hogan, a Republican, warned that the plan to transition to voting centers “would result in voter suppression” when it was first unanimously proposed by the State Board of Elections, though he eventually authorized it, local outlet the Post reported.

The influx of absentee ballots also risks delaying complete results, though Biden remains a heavy favorite in a solidly-Democratic state that was called for Hillary Clinton only minutes after polls closed in 2016.

IMO this is to help reduce the number of votes Trump will receive nationally. Regardless of the fact MD is going to go for Biden no matter what unless the sky falls.

. . . in an effort to prevent the spread of COVID among voters . . .?

Where is the WTF Guy when you need him? Common sense would dictate that sending more people to fewer location would have exactly the opposite effect, wouldn't it?

I live in MD and I will wait however long it takes to vote, even though my vote won’t mean much.

As usual, they’re doing themselves exactly what they groundlessly accused Trump of doing.

Yes it would so long as one has at least 2 communicating brain cells ;>)

I was at the local ABC store a while back and the guy at the counter said it made no sense Virginia shortened the hours to help prevent the spread of COVID because now more people were in the store at once. Duh, right!?

Bless you. I’m in Virginia and will take the day off work if I have to in order to stand in line. Don’t forget every vote for Trump in the Dem states matters towards the national tally!

This is absolute election interference and the Senate should promptly start an investigation into this.

This will backfire. Republican voters are far more of the “broken glass” type than Dem voters.

As a former resident of southern PG Co, I suspect they will use the locations that are open for early voting as the “only” authorized voting locations for election day. For example the Rec Center on Bock Road has been the early election location for several years. Thus they’ll probably use it instead of opening the normal voting places such as at Lord Baltimore Middle School, since renamed after a dead PG Co politician, who was not white.

"in an effort to prevent the spread of COVID among voters"

Yeah, right. Standing in line for 5 hours stops the virus from spreading.

They want people to vote by mail so those votes can be managed.

Aaaaaaand, of course, the places are more likely to be in or near riot-torn areas, as these large facilities are typically in such locations.

Way to go, Fauxgan!

There are graphs out that show that Trump wins the voting in person by a wide margin, but his lead will be overcome in key areas by mail-in votes. Google “Red Mirage” to see these prognostications.

Those graphs tell us that the Democrat strategy will be to interfere with the ability to vote in person. I have suggested that Antifa would attack voter stations either the night before or the day of voting. However, having the secretary of state in each state reduce the number of polling places would be just as effective.

This is a direct interference with polling in person in order to get a good result for Biden.

Exactly. If Trump doesn’t win I have no idea what I’ll do, but it will consist of a lot of tears :(
